found a 69 dz 302 camaro i recently found a 69 z-28 camaro for $6000.00 needs restoring but not in bad shape tring to figure out if it would be worth the work the only rust is in the floor and isn`t bad it runs but smokes has less than a 100,000 miles on how much would the motor cost to rebuild couldn`t find any rebuild kit for it the guy who owns it is the second owner and he bought it in 1970 what do you think i know its kind of rare

Stay away from the car. In fact, tell me where it is, and the phone number of the owner so that I can protect you from it.
That is a car that is worth restoring almost regardless of the condition if it has the original DZ engine. Probably worth it even if it doesn't have the original engine. If you don't get it, I suspect there would be quite a few other people interested in it, myself included.
If I recall correctly, it is a 327 block with a 283 crank. Large bore with a short stroke makes a high reving engine. Parts should be available.

Another vote to snag it and give it the full resto treatment. It'll be worth quite a bit if done right, and plenty of parts exist to get it back to showroom condition. Look for the power disc brakes, lack of A/C, 12-bolt, and hopefully the correct 302 and 4-speed trans are there.

Parts are available for a rebuild.
A 1969 302 is a large journal small block. The crank is unique @ 3.00" stroke. (1967-early '68 were small journal and a 283 crank could be used) It of course has a 4" bore. The pistons are available from Federal-Mogul - forged.
The cam is available from Crane as a blueprint. Melling, Elgin and other also have it.
The rest of the engine is standard 4" bore large journal stuff and regular rings, bearings and gaskets etc will cover it.
The oil pump is a higher pressure relief design, Melling M55A.
When you're done it will be fun, but not quick. The car though is really worth the restoration as the muscle car market is still commanding inflated prices with no end in site. Have fun if you do it.

i will buy the car from you and restore it for you and send u pics while i am driving it by the beach next summer.
Heck yea it is worth it, a camaro that runs and possibly roles on 4 wheels for $6000. I mean it doesn;t beat the deal i got, got mine for $3000, and it runs and moves. just gotta finish the 55 Chevy Pickup then the camaro is going to be stripped, and built into a COPO
Anyone have any good sources for a 427 and a Muncie M22 tranny, i found a couple places that have them periodicly, but anymore input would be awesome.

That car is probably worth 15k unrestored if it's numbers matching. Should be an X33 or X77 body code. D80 is the spoiler code(Rear spoiler and front lip), if it's a JL8 car with the 4 corner vette discs, it's worth a hell of alot more.
A #'s matching dz302 car that's been restored will appraise for anywhere from 40 up to 80+ depending on what it has.
What color is it? Cowl with the vaccum actuator? Just make sure it's the rear deal...Look for that X33 or X77 code. Check the casting #'s on the motor: Should see the dz #. There's a model number as well(12437, but I forgot where that's supposed to be...Designates the rpo z/28 package)

I had a friend with one that had an aftermarket cam, stock style short block(just freshened up) and upgraded springs and it would rev to almost 10k. They were nice cars. Wish I could find a deal like that.

If it has the original DZ302 in it, grab the car. Check the cowl tag for the X33 or X77 code which designates a Norwood built Z28. If the build date is prior to 12B then it won't have the X33 or X77. If it's a Van Nuys built Camaro, it won't have the X33 or X77 either but it might still have the broadcast sheet on top of the gas tank. My 69 Z28 JL8 car has the broadcast sheet and I have the origina Protect-o-plate showing the JL8 option. I have the crossram setup and an original GM fiberglass crossram cowl hood to go on the car. My car should be done later this year and it's will be worth over $200K. Let me know if you need any more help identifying anything.
