Default 6-71s/8-71s with EFI???

Anybody running 6-71s or 8-71s with EFI on the street? Got a problem with one. If your running a similar combo, post. We'll go from there.

What kind of problem are you having? Blown motors is all my dad has ever messed with i could ask him about your problem to see if he has any input.

NICE AVATAR!!! Got 2 diff blown motors with 2 diff problems. One is a 8-71 BDS on a 502 with Alum heads. Having trouble controlling the temp. long story behind that one. We've tried all the usual. We even put a second radiator in, so now it has 2. I think its a head gasket issue but it doesnt have most of the symptoms that go along with it. It just heat soaks and starts goin up and dont stop. Doin some more testing tomorrow. check for CO2 in the cooling system. Last time I checked for this, there was none. but the problem seems to be getting worse.
The second one is a 6-71 on a 427 ford side oiler. This one will get the header tubes glowing. No matter what the timing, or A/F ratio. I think I know whats up with that one too. The header tubes are too small, I think.
Both are EFI motors, both pump gas.
Have more specifics, may be able to post pix.
TIA

thats more along the lines of TBI. as for glowing the exhaust runners...it could be the cam. alot of duration may lead to the blower pushing fuel right into the exhaust before the exhaust valve completely closes.

i am curious to hear about these heat problems as i was about to do a 6-71 in my RX7 in a month or two

are you sure the valves are closing right? i would pressure test the vale springs before dropping money on another cam.

Both are batch fire, bank to kank, whatever you want to call them, so yes they are similar to TBI in that sense. Or TPI, as they too were bank to bank.

here's a link to the same thread in forced induction. Should help from answering, or asking questions twice.

?????????? Didnt think of it, but its makin the tubes glow at like 2000 after 30 seconds or so.
The heads, and obviously the valve springs are brand new, almost, just a lil run time. I know, I know, new dont mean good.
We're gonna try reducing the blower drive. its 9 % over right now. We're gonna swap the pulleys tuesday, retune and see what happens.

We'll be researching cam specs tuesday. Let ya know what we learn.
We dont have all the build specs right this second.
We do know it was built as a blower motor, that is, low comp, mild "blower friendly" cam. It sure doesnt sound like its too radical. Dont really chop at all.
