max rpm of motor without dyno?
I would like to know how high I should rev my motor while running it through the gears. It is a 383 4 bolt main, Edelbrock Vortec performer rpm dual plane intake manifold, 600cfm Holley, summit iron vortec heads with 67cc heads, hypereutetic pistons, stock rods, stock 400 crank, hydraulic flat tappet camshaft with .454 lift and 292 duration(not sure of the operating range of cam, hardened pushrods, stamped steel rocker arms, screw in studs. its in a 84 chevy el camino, its got 3.23 gears, 25 inch tall tires, and has a 2,400 stall converter in front of a TCI TH350. Not sure if you need all that info, but at least i think thats all you will need to know. I don't have access to a dyno. thanks for the input.

Your engine should make peak power at around 52-5300 rpms, which means that 54-5500 rpms might be the best shift point with the TH350. Provided it was balanced properly and you have springs that are suited, it should handle 5500 easliy but I personally would keep it under 5800 if it where mine, even though it could take a quick run up to 6000 a time or two when putting on a smoke show for the buddies.
Nice combo, should be a brute.
