Well I ran the block number and it is a 69 327 block from a truck. So I guess its not a 350 as what I was told.

So if anyone is interested let me know.

if its a bare block, it can be a 327 or 350, they have the same bore size

It has a the orginial 4 bolt main block that comes with crank and pistons, and rods in it still.

Basically its a short block I am selling.

I ran that block number and came up with a 327 from 1969.

Well I am confused on what I have now since I checked again and it is for sure a four bolt main block. Not sure if this is the orginal motor for the truck since this did come out of a grain truck. I will have to ask the person who I got it from.

These are the possible motors but it can't be the 327 since they did not make a 4 bolt main block. I really do not think its a 302 camaro block since that would be plain crazy but maybe had the motor and did not know what it was. Hell I don't know.

But I may go check another block I have in the barn that I know is a 350 and check bore size with the one I have. If they are the same then it is a 350 or if it is different which I doubt I will have a 302.

Well just checked outside in the barn and the bore size is 4 inches so that is a 350 4 bolt main block. Sorry for the confusion. A guy on another forum was telling me it was a 327 and I was like wtf. I never used or found a website like that to figure out what block I have. That is a good website for sure. I can check all our other motors also then.

If anyone is still interested it is still for sale. Comes as a short block. Three pistons on one side have peices broken off on top around where the rings go. Bores appear to be okay but if not you can bore it over to a 383 or whatever.

I am taking best offers on it right now so let me know. Need this gone its just sitting taking more space up in the barn.

Its a strong platform to build a street/strip motor on.

Pull the casting/forging number off of the crank and look that up. It will tell you if it's a 327 or 350, the bore is the same, the stroke is different (302 was the same bore as well). And, you can't bore a 350 out to a 383, you have to bore it and use a stroker crank. Just in case someone was confused by the way you stated that.

The same casting # can be used for several motors look at the suffix code in front of the pass pad should be 2 or 3 letters "EE" "TKT" something like that.

How did you confirm it is a steel crank? The reason I ask is because if it is a steel 350 crank, that alone is worth $500.

I am not sure if its a steel crank but here are the numbers on the motor.
Back Block Number- GM 3970010
Front block number- V1020AJF
Piston Number- Z-16-25

Crank numbers as follows. Three of the main caps had this number F 3412 while the last one toward the back of the block had the number F3951 or F3961.

Also have these numbers off the main caps. I am listing from back to front of the motor.

GM 398
GM 32
GM 13
GM 28

I hope this helps and hope you guys can help me figure out what kind of motor this is and if it has a steel crank.

Well I still got this motor. Can not get any of the pics to load up on the computer to put them on here. My computer sucks.

Needs to go. Also the block number ends in "010" which means its a high nickel block and is very hard to come by and a very strong block.

If anyone lives close feel free to ask to come look at it.

The AJF suffix code says it's a 1973 350 that came with a 2 barrel carb and 155hp.
010 as the last three digits of the CASTING number doesn't mean much.
010 and 020 cast under the timing cover indicate nickel content of the block.
To me thats a $50 average, everyday 350.

Where you find a $50 everyday 350 with a 4 bolt main motor, high nickel content block and maybe even has a steel crank.

I meant to say on the front of the block it say numbers 010 and 020.

You can't even get any kind of 350 motor from a junkyard for $50 even though I would not buy a motor from a junkyard since most of the time you get junk.

Well whatever its worth it needs to go. As I said make a offer. I will check one more time to make sure it is a high nickel block also.

You can come take a look at it if you live close since I am not shipping this anyways since I said local pickup only when I posted this topic.

Well that grain truck could have just as well ended up in a junkyard with the engine in it. Then it would be a junkyard engine, a good one by what you're saying.
I've bought complete 350's from the junkyard core pile for as little as $20, took them to the machine shop and most check out ok. I've even found three in the woods once that only needed regular machine work.
4 bolt mains, high nickel, same price. Steel crank I seriously doubt, not impossible but not very common in 1973, and with a 155hp engine.
You might still get $250 out of it, it all depends on who comes along and how long you wait for the sale.

I would never buy a motor from a junkyard since you have no idea what it is there for. Mostly what goes to a junkyard is junk and is worthless. I would not want to spend any money on something and time to take it out and drag it home from the junkyard an be worthless. Just like when people buy transmissions for cheap from the junkyard. They last for awhile or not too long.

Actually I got the motor for free since my buddy gave it to me since they put another motor in it and are still using it to haul grain. Farmers just don't throw away a good grain truck if the motor blows they just get another motor.

My dad had a 350 4 bolt main motor with a steel crank come out of a 78 chevy van and he sold it for $400 not knowing what he had to a buddy. It was the orginal motor also. You would be suprised at what the lower hp motors from gm come with.

Hell alot of people use those certain year 305 heads for high horse power builds since they flow well.

I can wait to sell it but just want it gone. The sooner the better.

Thats my point, if they didn't give that engine to you they could have dumped it in the woods or the junkyard pile. So someone could have got lucky and found it for dirt cheap.
I buy from junkyards a lot, stuff in the core pile is usually rebuildable and if not it can be exchanged.
As for transmissions I always buy from the core pile and rebuild them. $40 for a core (known bad or brought in and dumped) or $200+ for who knows what out of a vehicle.
I just found a '67 327 originally out of a camaro in a pimped out 80's caprice, I pulled the heads and it looked recently rebuilt.
You're right, you never know what you're going to find.
Anyway, good luck with selling it, if you got it for free anything will be profit.
