Default v6 cylinder head questions

This seemed like the best place to post this, if the mods have a better place please move it for me.

I want to make the 3.4 v6 get as much horsepower as it possibly can. Now before anyone tells me this is stupid and I should just get a v8, just stop. I have a project in the works for a baaaaaaaaad little 350 in an s-10. I'm simply not content with a stock daily driver car.

I've been researching and I've found out that the aluminum heads from a 3.1 are a direct bolt on to the 3.4. People are doing this head swap because (according to them) the flow numbers on the aluminum heads are better than you will ever get out of the cast iron 3.4 heads. And because porting and polishing is not very cheap. But I happen to know a real cracker jack cylinder head guy.

So here's my question, does anyone know (or know how to get) the stock flow numbers from a set of 3.1 heads?

I want to get the numbers, then have my cylinder head guy work his magic on my cast iron heads for comparison.

Thanks in advance for any help I might get!

Well lets put it this way the difference money versus power is huge and their is lots to do to get a lot of flow out of thoose heads actually I think you cant even get a lot of flow out of them. I think Brodix makes a nice set of heads that flow tons. But to be honest a ´LT1 LS1 or even a 4,3 V6 chevy is better than that 3,4. You may wanna upgrade to a 3,8. Hope this helps a bit.

I would first put a cold air intake onto this car. Second I would put a full exhaust onto this car (headers, high flow cats, & cat back). Third upgrade the ingnition system. Last I would chip the car or flash the ECM. In a freinds 95' Camaro with his 190,000+ mile 3.4L V6, he is able to beat alot of V8 equipt cars from a roll. His car is a t-5 manual and we have done most all of the mods that I just out lined here for you (he is missing the headers at this point). He also gets 35+ mpg when he is just cruising down the highway @ 90 mph.

I noticed that you became a member at camarov6.com and you were searching around for information over there. Another good place to look at is fullthrottlev6.com.

Here are the specs for the heads you are looking for:
Fully Ported Iron Heads (@.500" lift):
158cfm Intake / 142cfm Exhaust

Stock 3.1 Aluminum Heads (@.500" lift):
162cfm Intake / 139cfm Exhaust

Thanks for the helpful info guys! As far as transplanting....... I have other engines/cars with more displacement to play with. I just want to get as much HP out of the 3.4 to say I did it.
The camarov6 forum is where I got the idea for the heads. I'll post any significant improvements I get out of the car for those who are interested.

Thanks again guys!

I think some guys actually use the 3400 heads. Supposedly they are better than the 3.1 or 3.4 heads. Just a thought.

if you go aluminum, make sure they have a super-flat deck, and stay on top of intake gasket maintenance...

the older motors are a lot better in terms of reliabilty, than the new 3100 and 3400 motors.

BUT, the newer motors have LSx style roller rockers and beehive valve springs STOCK

The 3.1 flow numbers above that I gave are for the 3100, the 3400 heads flow even better stock, and the 3500 heads flow even better than those stock. And if you port and polish them they only get better. In order to get the most out of the the 3.4, I would go with the 3500 top end swap. Some guys on fullthrottlev6 are getting ready to do it.
