Default How do I make stock gauges work?

Im trying to make my stock gauges work with my new set up. I have an SBC engine with a t5 trans. I have the electric VSS on the trans wired to the ECU but it reads 10mph when im doing around 70mph. I have an MSD HEI dist and when I hooked it up to the factory tach wire it worked but it was not even close to being accurate. Those are the only two im really worried about being that i have autometer oil press. and water temp. gauges and the voltage and fuel work like normal. Thanks for any ideas.

I never could get mine to work, I had to replace everything. Do you still have the PCM?

You need the computer to run the speedometer and hook it up the same as stock, but the factory tach will not work.

Do you have the HEI tach wire going directly to the gauge or going to the old tach signal feed from the stock setup? Was your car originally a LT1 car or a V6 car? You need to find the speed sensor pulse rate and then find the the pulse rate of the VSS that was in what ever tranny your car originally came with. What happens when you hook a computer or scanner capiable of tuning up to your car?

The car was originally an LT1 M6. Right now I have an aftermarket tach so that ones not really a concern. I dont know what the pulse rate is of my VSS because I got it from the JY and I dont remember what year car it was. Ive never hooked up a computer to it to see what it says. The shop would probably charge me too much so I havent even tried that.

What did the tranny come from? I would expect that it uses the standard 4000PPM's that most use. Where exactly do you have it wired in?

How much **** does the PCM still controll?

The pcm is not controlling anything in the vehicle anymore. Unless the anti theft is run by it too. The trans is a borg warner t5 that I bought years ago w/out a vss. The one I have for it I got from the jy. The vss is wired into the pcm.

Sorry for bringing this back but I finally got my speedo to work. What I ended up doing was grounding the purple wire and hooking up the yellow wire to a dark green/white wire that goes to the speedo. Just sharing the info for those doing the swap.
