Default [ Searching for affordable machine shope to machine a Merlin aluminum bare block ]

Hello, I have made a killer deal on a

World Product Merlin X 10.200" tall deck bare block.

That is a raw casted block that will need to be done all of the screw threads
and machining like the

Main Caps

Head bolt bores

Tranny flange (how it looks)

Water pump screw threads

must get sleeved

square decked

align honed

freeze pluged

torque plate bored and mole honed

need the bearings

and what ever else.

Who know a good, cheap, and competent on such work, machine shop who can do that?

The seller have to measure it out before but he is almost sure that the raw bore is 4.49".

What displacement do you recommend for a 68 Impala with 4l80E and 12 bolt posi?

My friend said: Man, what a quesiton - the biggest possible (should be 632cid on that block ), but I dont know, what is your opinion members?

The price of a 540cid, 598cid, 604cid or 634cid is nearly the same so with which one to get along is my confusion.

If there is any machine shop in the forum, I need the FAIR offers right now for machining and a rotating assembly matching that block.

So if you want the order come in touch by bow-tie@gmx.at right now.

It looks like the cam tunnel has to be done and the lifter bores have to be machined as well. And for what my shop would cahrge to do that work I am sure you could buy 3 to 5 new blocks for what we would have to charge to finish that block off.

My suggestion would be to try and get rid of it and get a new block.
It will cost a couple grand EASY to do all that work.
my shop it would be time and material @95/hr..

the a reason you got such a good deal is because it will probably cost more to fix that block than buy a new one

When my CNC machine is machining blocks it makes me 300 to 600 an hour and I would figue its going to take at least 60 to 80 hours in programming and machining the raw block so just do them math and you can figue out why you got a killer deal on the block.

And tying up a machine that long for one block I think would be costing me money when that are blocks setting there to machine.

Actually I talked with a guy last month I beleive on this same block and and he said he would sell it and buy a new one as it was a ton cheaper.

So if you just bought it I now where it came form.

That's a cool looking coffee table you got there. In all seriousness you can't do anything with that block.

.

I didn't want to be the 1st reply. No one is going to do that block.
Call world & see if they will do it. They at least should have the program.
Maybe a big time professional race team will have bare blocks done, but none that I can think of use that style block.
All big time guys use a shorter or taller deck, and none really use a 4.84 anymore. I wish you luck, but I think you're screwed,
besides there are no good & competent shops that are ever cheap. You can get cheap & decent, if you get very lucky.

I saw that for sale on ebay and thought to myself "No one in their right mind would buy that!" Turns out I was right.

Maybe I resell it, I got already offers and I have a brand new 540cid short block.
I just was packed by the sting when I saw have got the offer as I always wanted to
go with a alu block.

It is also possible that I look here in Austria to a friend who owns a hyper modern machine shop. They measure with laser and so.
The problem is not the raw block, the problem is that I have a job that does not spend me much free time.

We will see.

Thanks Hannes
