Default Building a 406 small block for my 510

I am building a 406 chevy small block for my 1972 Datsun 510 which currently houses a 350 with a 700R4 in it. I already have a virgin high nickel block and Kieth Black P/N KB130-030 pistons and Procomp 6" H-beam rods with 7/16" bolts. The crank is a Eagle cast steel unit with stock stroke. All parts are brand new. My question is does anyone have any experience with the Procomp connecting rods? Also I have heard that there might be some issues with the quality of the Eagle crank? Any feed back would be greatly appreciated.

I've never had a problem with an ESP crank. Although all have been 4340 forged models. In your case have it balanced by a professional shop with a good Hines Balancer along with the rods and pistons. You should be good to go. A well balanced cast crank can take more power and rpms than most think.

^^ Good advice to balance the rotating assembly. Eagle makes good crankshafts, but I would have someone really check out the Procomp rods. Most of Procomp stuff is pretty low quality control.

IMO it's not worth it to risk your engine using parts that MIGHT be ok. Think of all the time and money invested only to lose a motor due to skimping on a so so set of rods. I would sell them on Ebay and use the return for a set of ESP 3D Hbeams with the 7/16 rod bolts. You can get a set for $300-350 and have a worry free mind. My latest set for my 385ci all specd out perfect on the big and small ends and were within 1 gram out of the box.

The rear end I am using is an R200 with 3:54 gears from a 300Z turbo car. I also have power four wheel disc brakes from a 280 as well.
