anyone ever used this engine or have any comments on it? Ive been around the block trying to decide how i want to go with my new engine in my monte carlo. I want something pretty simple, since I have to spend money on a rebuilt tranny and paint job. I had a line on a used 350 that i was going to build with some vortec heads. But after I pay 150 for the engine, have it machined and the short block put together, then buy the vortec heads, its up there pretty close to the price of a crate. I know if i built the engine with the vortec heads it would give me a little more horsepower, but im willing to sacrifice for something thats new and has a warranty. I was originally aiming at 350 horse at the crank, but just am wanting some opinions on this crate motor if anyone has them. This and sdpc has free shipping on it for 17xx out the door. I just within the last year put the 260 horse version in my old truck and it ran great.

The 290hp version is 100% identical to the 260hp version with the exception of the cam (290hp cam is 222/222 @.050").

I had that engine, I still use the short block. It worked good for a drop in engine to get it running.
