well, the block is at the shop. I decided to just build a mild roller 355. Engine is a one piece seal 350 which will be punched 30 over. Im going with some flat top pistons and the "upgraded vortec roller head kit" from sdpc. IT comes with the upgraded vortec heads, rockers, edlebrock rpm air gap manifold and bolts etc. All I will need to figure out is what cam to go with. Its going in a 85 ss monte with a 3.73 or 3.90 gear, havent decided yet. Depending on the cam is also what stall I will go with. The car is going to be street only so It will need to have good vacuum. I was thinking the hot cam but Im sure there are better alternatives. Also, I know that with some of the roller cams you must upgrade the dist gear. I have seen several put out by crane and maybe comp that do not require this. I need to stay under .575 lift due to the springs the heads come with. I dont want to do a bunch of upgrading. Any suggestions?

i called comp cams and they recommended a comp xr282hr..

Duration @ 0.006": 282° / 288° Duration @ 0.050": 230° / 236°
Max Lift w/ 1.5RR: .510" / .520" Lobe Separation: 110°


thats the specs on it. any thoughts?


since this is going to be just a street motor around 9.2 Cr with the 64cc vortec heads, i was thinking along the lines of a comp xr276hr.

I would stay with the smaller cam from the sounds of your goals for the car. I would however run a set of 1.6 ratio roller rockers to help enhance the mid to upper rpms.
