Default BBC swap time

So I have been trying to sell my truck but no one seems to want it. So im just gonna lower it, paint it, and swap in a big block 454.

Truck currently has a 350ci Gen I carb'd engine in it. But I like power and the sound of a big block so im gonna swap it!

ANyways, anyone has any websites with some information or a good place to start collecting the parts needed? I already got a 454 lined up, its a short block that the guy wants my 350 long block for equal trade. its a crate engine still in the package.

OR!!!

Should I just keep the 350 and go radical with it? radical cam, heads, lots of compression. Truck is deffinatly not a DD, pure pleasure for when i feel the need to drive it. Sop i guess I could technically find a engine to build on a stand then drop it in when I get it finished or where I want it. along with the tranny and goodies to go with her if I need to.,

um big block for sure. Build the **** out of the 454 might as well go all out, and like you said the sound alone is a good reason

I got a good deal lined up on a 454 short block for $500, it is brand new in the crate and never fired. Im just not smart when it comes to chevy motors. especially push rod old skool motors like the 350 and 454....

Anyone has any advice where to find parts or how I would go about swapping in a BBC? I think i got my electronics on lock down, just going to build a custom auto-meter dash with every guage I want or need. then put it in a aluminum or billet face and color match it to the truck.

1 thing I would like to know is what tranny i have and if it would work with a 454. im sure a bellhousing change would be needed, also the rear end would be a good thing to tackle first.

The transmission from your SB will bolt right up to the BB.

Motor mount pads is about all you'll need, get them from a later Big Block truck as the didnt make a Big Block production engine until 1965 and I'm assuming we're talking about your 63?

You can also use the same distributor, this should be a VERY SIMPLE and straight forward swap!

Well I was planning on building the big block outside the truck and build it to my preferred specs. With a rather large cam, decent heads, maybe a little bit of increased compression and a few other goodies. Then just swap it in when its ready to go and be fired up, I dont want to sit and look at a truck with no motor for months in my garage.

Anyways, doing a bit of research I was thinking of finding a TH400 to go with the new cubes just because im not sure of what I have now. Im almost positive its a 700r4 tranny, but who knows till you look right? Will the stock tranny mount work or is it gonna have to be fabbed up? Also the crossmember?

now all I need to do is figure out the rear end situation. A 9" or 12 bolt will probably be in order to hold the power im shooting for.

Also I guess I need to search for the motor mounts...

I have a 66 c-10w/ a 454 / th400.

I have modified my stock inline 6 motor mounts to go w/ the 454. You will lose the bottom mounting hole unless you drill another hole in the xmember. You can use a tranny xmember from a 2nd gen camaro and it will fit. You have to do some modding to the radiator mount and UPGRADE!! if you want, give me a call at 334-354-9332 and I can tell you alot more about it. Oh and yea, me and my brother did the swap in about a weekend.

I just need to get the truck and have a look over i guess...

I dont have any clues as to what is in the truck right now...I think the truck was an original v6 truck.

What kind of headers did you find to fit well? Im looking to find some nice ceramic coated ones, but they all seem to fit 68+ with a BBC.

EDIT: Also added a few pics of the truck for reference sake.
