Well I haven't personally done that swap but I went from a SBC to BBC in my Nova and it was a direct swap same motor mounts and everything. I would say get a tubular K-member with V8 mounts and you should be fine. The tubular K-member will also help alot with oil pan clearance issues as well.

By the way I forgot to look but there is a sticky about it in this section. Go check that out they have pics and everything. Best of luck with the swap.

you meen for the tranny x-member or the k-member? for the tranny just buy one for a 95 camaro for what ever tranny you plan to use from BMR or somewhere like that. makes it a lot easier.

okay, i read the forums and can't find any info on if the stock v6 k-member can be modified for a BBC.

would motor plates be easier? I most likely will need to cage it anyway

if your not trying to save money just buy a tubular k-member they are so much nicer and give alot more room for headers

ok then, buy a sbc/bbc k-member. new they are like $500 i think for std. steel and everything just bolts in. much easier than motor plates, plus you can reuse everything except the motor.

My car (BBC in '00 Z/28) came with the PA racing K-member. I would not recommend this one and would go with a BMR or AJE piece.

Regarding motor plates, I run a front plate and stock side mounts. With the Hooker hedders, it would be a challenge to get the midplate to work.

okay, thanks for the heads up.. if I did a plate it would look like this... dumb question, would I still need a k-member? I'm trying to plan all this before even touching the car. it's still sitting in the weeds at my parents house

Without a K-member, what would the rack and your suspension components mount to?

Also, it is important to note in that picture you show, the engine has been relocated forward. Mine is in the stock location which you can tell because my rear float adjuster was under the windshield until I rotated the carb.

first f-body so I didn't know about the k-member holding the suspension... go figure

anyway, I noticed too that the motor was more forward, but how'd you get your distributor to clear?

does the motor still have to mount to the k-member? or can I just have the member for the suspension?

sorry for the newb questions

No worries on all the questions....

I can take the cap off, slide it at a slight angle under the cowl, and the distirbutor falls right in... just a regular MSD unit.

You can run a front and mid plate to hold the engine, I just could not do it due to starter and header clearance issues.

awesome, thanks for the help... I just don't feel like paying $500 for a k-member when I can just do some extra welding.
(my buddie backhalfs cars for a 'hobby' so i'm not worried about him messing up)

very nice looking install. I am looking to do a similar swap on a 93 here in the near future. I am planning on using the BMR K-member, but ai am still unsure on headers. What headers are you running on your car, and do you have any clearance issues with the steering? I have read the other sticky on here concerning modifying a set of the 2455 Hookers, but my heads are also AFR 305's, so the ports are raised over stock. Any other pics or info would great ... I know I am going to do this sooner or later, but I like to plan out as much as possible beforehand.

Also what radiator are you running?

We have the motor plates and a K Member that will work for either a BBC or SBC conversion. we can also help with headers.
