Default Building a 454

I got a 98 454 for Free so I thougth I would build it up some to play with on a 1/8th mile strip. It has 10141279 heads on it and was told they don't make any Domed Pistons for them. Any way of getting some more Compression with these heads? Anyone ever ran these heads they anygood? Thanks

you didnt really state what your plans are, you said build up... but what does that mean??? pistons?? rods??? crank?? is there gonna be any machine work?? now without that info, this is how i would approach it. if its a budget build without really caring about hp/tq i would do a clean up bore job with the appropriate pistons for size, rings bearings and call it good. but if the intentions are to do more than pistons, its more cost effective to do a 496 stroker. rotating assemblies can be had cheap and the bigger cubes will equal bigger gains in hp and tq for very little extra money from doing just a bore and piston job. this is the same for people doing the 383's, they find that its very little xtra money to go 383 instead of doing a 355 and there is so much more gain for very little $$

I am just putting it together to go play with it on a 1/8 mile strip. Had a 360 Chevy before. Was going to use the stock rods and crank. I was told the stock rods and crank are good to around 600 horse. I will be boring the block to true it back up. Thanks
