Default Shaker Hood

Has anybody seen a Shaker Hood on a 1998-2002 Trans Am?
There used to be a guy around here (Goldsboro NC) that had a red LS1 Trans am with ane on it.
I dont know if it is functional or just for looks, but it looked GOOD?
I have tried to find it on the enternet, but i cant find any web sites that sell the kit.
Could some one shine a light on if yall have seen this before, and if it is functional?

Yes, it has been done. Raleigh T/A is the user name of who did it. Raleigh T/A did it all himself. He had a guide that gave anyone some hints on how to do it. It was merely for looks I believe. The idea was spawned from the 2003 Heritage T/A. Just do a search if you haven't heard of it. It was at G12.

I am also in the process of doing it. I've got the 72 scoop, extra hood, and working on getting a few more tools to do the job. I am taking the dremel to my stock painted sleek beak hood in September or October.

I'll be fabbing a mounting solution to the top of the Coil Pack Bolts. out of Aluminum with my Dad/Grandfather. After that, I plan on making it somewhat "functional" and piggyback off of the stock Air Intake system with brushed aluminum/sheet metal diverting the air down to the intake system that uses the Open K&N filter. (Not the "lid" type intake for our cars, the other one)

guys it cant be that hard. find a shaker off a 70's ta. measure ALOT then cut hole. fab up mounts to bolt to the intake and rout a tube to the shaker to make it functional. i know there are several cars with this done in the conversions section. just look them up. or pay your local fabricator to do it

The hardest part I've been looking for is the brass ***** needed to take a dremel tool to a hood's beautiful paint job. I bid on a set on Ebay, but got sniped.

But yes, measure, measure, measure and cut. The bracing below the actual hood may be a problem to, but I have an idea for that as well. I believe 70-76 are the same style Shaker.

6litereater has a kit or is about to have a kit. Still requires you to cut your own hood though. Maybe take it to a body shop if you can't stand doing it yourself.

I'm sure the 6litereater project will not be coming out. I think they are closing the doors for the time being.

It is not hard and doesn't require special tools. Like Chris said, I just used a Dremel. I have seen a nice airbox set-up, but haven't figured out how to build one. I am also very concerned with water in the intake from an overhead airbox, so I have not pursued one. I bought a hood off a wreck to try first, a good investment. See if you can find one the right color and with decent paint and maybe you will get lucky with your spare and not need to cut your stocker.

That was me! I have a spare hood with a cut-out if you are interested. It is black and in OK shape if you have a buddy in the paint and body biz. Let me know.

Right or not, the Heritage T/A is my inspiration.
