Default NC emissions..

My grandmas cars cat is rattling away.. do they do a sniffer test in NC?? or is it just a computer scan?? wanna see what my options are before she drives back up for inspection.. theres no emissions in florida.. so i was ready to cut it off not thinking..

Not for certain but I believe the sniffer is only on 2000+ cars. This will vay by county though. I know they will do a visual for sure. I think you can search NC DOT website and find the info you need

From what i understood when i took my inspection classes, north carolina is doing away with all of the sniffer tests. all of the countys in nc are going to just the computer hook up inspection, but if you cut the cat off, it will throw a code, and it will not pass the computer inspection, and it wouldnt pass the visual inspection either.

computer and visual on OBD2 cars, OBD1's get a safety inspection and i think a visual

Like he said, it varies by county. Some do sniffers, some don't. Weird.

well i was gunna hollow the cat and put a simulator in it.. i guess i'll just replace it.. i love my emissions free state
