Depends on what kind of car you have. If you have a Firehawk, SS or a 96-97 WS6 then call SLP for your build number and date

If it is a 98-02 WS6 then see the link in my sig

What about z28s? Not to hijack the OP's thread, but where do you find z28 build numbers?

GM didn't give the Z28's a build number, only the WS6, SS and Firehawk cars got them

For example, there are only 1402 hugger orange z28s in the world (original). How do I know if my number is 1 or 559 or 1402? Are you saying that there are just the total amount and no 1,2,3,4,5,6...etc.?

There is a breakdown of say M6 Hugger Z28s, A4 Huggers, T-Top, ect.

But you won't find what number your car is out of that total

Looking at this, it shows that of the 137 total NHRA's built in 2001, only 24 were Formula "Coupes" - how do I take the next step from there? Purely guestimates?

Total Formula's - 1001
NHRA - 137 (14%)
NHRA Coupe - 24 (2.4%)
Hardtop - 179 (18%)
Red - 156 (16%)
M6 - 301 (33%)

Just trying to figure out how many Hard Top NHRA Formula's were made, how many of those were red, and how many of those were M6 - I'm guessing less than 10, less than 8, less than 4

I found this one on the same site - link - claims to be a VIN decoder

There are 1 2001 FIREBIRD COUPE vehicles (0.006%) matching your exact options list. There are 1 (0.006%) with at least as many options.

Compnine started charging a subscription for that service. It's rather pricey. :- \

The problem with the CompNine VIN decoder is that it has EVERY RPO code "pre-checked" by default. Since one of those codes indicate the production week, nearly every car is a "1 of 1" or "1 of a handful". At a minimum, for this to be useful, un-check all the RPO codes for your car, then check ONLY the important ones (WS6, trans, exterior color, interior color, W66 (Formula) or W82/W84 (TA), etc.) THEN you'll get a reasonable "1 of xx" number for your car.

EDIT: ZOIKS! I just checked that link, they've changed their VIN decoder GUI, it no longer allow you to check/uncheck your individual RPOs to re-calculate the number of matches like they had before.

Its not perfect, but it is useful if you are aware if its limitations (as noted above). Its about the ONLY web-accessable database I've found that seems to be tied into the GM-VIS system, which is the "gospel" of production info. I'm not sure if GM-VIS allows you to determine how many cars w/ RPO xyz was built in any particular year like CompNine's relatively crude GUI interface. My primary complaint about CompNine's RPO database is that it seems to be lacking data for some of the years (as I've noted in the breakdowns I've created). That could be an issue w/ the master GM-VIS database, or something that got messed up when it was imported to CompNine.

WOW! Glad I scoured their data when I had the chance. I didn't think free access would be available forever. I wonder if they ever obtained the missing data I mentioned above.
