Default SLP Blackwing Lid, Anything Better?

Ok so my Hawk has the Blackwing Lid, and Im just wondering if thats the best, or if someone makes a better one? I saw you can get a couple cold air things from SLP that work with the Blackwing but Im new and still learning in the V8 world. Thanks in advance.

Anything is better than the Blackwing, you should sell it to me

I am trying to find one for my car that isn't over $300. Some argue that there is still a little bottle neck where the air goes to the MAF since it makes a transition from oval to circular. However I believe that most people would agree that it is one of the best lids. Quality and fit is supposed to be much better than aftermarket lids.

way over priced... flows as good as any other lid.. aside from fitment, its just another lid... not worth the $$$ if you ask me...

Keep it. It flows as good as any aftermarket lid, and the quality/fitment is MUCH better with the Blackwing. I installed one on my 98 TA, and my 99 Firehawk.

I'll eventually pick one up to replace the SLP lid that came with my car.

Any lid is better, 5 hp gains with an aftermarket are regular. I really have never ran into any issues nor have my friends. Ive had Granatelli and MTI. They are priced so high because guys trying to retain the value of their hawks want them. But as stated any lid will be better. Ill gladly take an FTP 104 lid over a Blackwing any day

No, "Any lid" is NOT better.
Aftermarket lids do NOT fit as well as the Blackwing.
And the FTP104 is not comparing apples to apples.
Hands down, the Blackwing is an excellent airlid & worth some added value.
And I don't think you'll really see 5hp gains with another comparable aftermarket airlid.

I believe Pro Stock John did tests years ago and gained 5, ive seen others do it. Like I said neither myself nor my friends have ever had issues and combined we have had SLP, LS1 motorsports, Whisper, MTI Clear, FTP and Granatelli with no issues on Camaros and Birds, so I really don't buy into the whole aftermarket lids not fitting. Nothing will ever fit as well as OEM no argument there. But if im paying top dollar for a lid ill pay 180 for a FTP 104 over 200 plus for a black wing. Ill deal with any minor issues for the gains/room to grow. Thats just me though

Performance: Nearly as good (if not better) than other aftermarket intakes (gains or loses in comparison would be minimal if any)
Fitment/Quality: Top Notch.

Consensus:
Keep it, no need to upgrade.

My aftermarket SLP lid fits fine. My reason for wanting the Blackwing is OEM appearance.

^x2. I want the full factory appearance as well. It's almost a status quo lid at this point. Much more "ooh and ahhs" then anything, and thats only if ppl recognize it that know about them.

The lid is nice, but when that boot splits you are SOL. You cannot get replacement parts for it. Thanks SLP!

Big fat bump 6 years later eh. But I agree, that boot was a dumb design since you can't get them anymore. My BW lid is sitting in my basement with all the other OEM boxes and boxes and boxes. Just one of many parts i bought two or three times.
