Default Camaro SS??

Hi guys I'm new here and I apologize if this is the wrong forum but I have few questions. First off I just recently purchased A 2000 Camaro SS or so I thought?? I looked on door jamb and it doesn't have the WU8 in listed in the options on the drivers door and it has no sticker from slp On passenger door so this tells me it's not a ss but a z. I know the person that bought this car new and I remember the day he bought it from a local dealership and it was badged as an SS it has the SS hood, spoiler, slp lid, ss badge above radio, ss badges on fenders and a factory 200 mph speedo that I've never seen. Seems like I have an oddball here or a dealership clone??? Any info is much appreciated.

Thanks Donnie

I don't think a 200mph speedo was ever an option; at least all the SS cars I've seen have had the same 150's as the Z28.
Anyway the only way to know for sure is to call SLP and give them your vin#. They can check their records and tell you.

These cars never got a 200 mph speedo, that's probably something the previous owner put on the car himself. The fact that you don't have the WU8 RPO code is definitely strange, you might want to give SLP a call, they will be able to help you if you give them the last 8 digits of your VIN number I believe.

No SS received a 200mph speedo as a factory option. That was aftermarket, either by some sort of in-house dealer package or a private owner.

As for the lack of a WU8, it's really quite simple. No WU8 = no SS. Double check the VIN on that SPID sticker though, and make sure it matches the car's VIN. If the VIN on that sticker does not match, then it's possibile that the car might have had a WU8 package after all. I have owned an F-body before where the wrong SPID sticker was applied on the assembly line, so this does happen sometimes. If you find that the VIN doesn't match, you can get a list of the correct RPOs from any GM dealer by giving them your VIN.

If the VIN matches though, and WU8 is not present, then the car is simply not an original SS.

Well it seems my car is a true oddball! SLP called me back and my car is a SS even though it's missing the WU8 code on the door and to add to the oddness like I said I know the guy that bought my car new and he said the 200 mph speedo clustee was in it since the car was new. Another strange thing about my car is all 6 speed camaros I've seen have the shift pattern in White in front of the shifter on the console and have the leather hurst shifter ****, my oddball doesn't have the shift pattern on the console it's on the shifter ****??? Regardless of all these "strange" things I absolutely love the car!! It's going to the detail shop tomorrow for a full on detail, buffed, motor, undercarriage, you name it it's getting cleaned then I have little things to do it then it's going the garage next to the 69. I'm going to lower it 1.5 inches, I have some C5 17" chrome wheels with drag radials for it, billet grill with a 69 rally sport SS emblem, and I think I'm gonna paint the Brake callipers red. It's a black on black car with red SS badging so I think the red callipers will set it off.

By the By anyone have a paint they recommend for the callipers?

RPM WS6 could be correct and the assy. line screwed the pooch on that, or the car has had the door replaced or sticker replaced.

GM never put a 200mph cluster in the 4th gens, they never made it period. Somebody else put that in.

The shift patten plaque could have fallen off or removed. The Hurst shifter option has a leather "H" ****.

I myself would never paint the calipers, spray paint never last. Seen that too many times before, but you can get them powder-coated.

Congrats on the ride and have fun,
Craig.

Check out these kits, I sell a ton of them with great results and have them in red, black, blue, yellow and silver.

A friend of mine painted his calumets with a ceramic brush on paint they seem to be holding up ok, I think I may try that until I can afford some aftermarket rotors and callipers. As far as the cluster goes best I can figure is the dealership put it in for some strange reason but I picked up a White face SLP 155 MPH cluster at the salvage yard for a $100 so I think I'm gonna swap it anyway. I also picked up another 6 speed console top and the correct shifter ****. I also threw on a 69 rally sport SS grill emblem on it and it fit my billet grill like it was made for it!

Does the current 200mph cluster face show the correct speed when cruisin?!?
If so, then swapping in a new cluster may require more work.
When people install the 200mph units, there is something done with reprogramming somewhere along the line.

Might wanna try searchin' for more info, ...

Yes it does show correct speed but if I'm correct you have to calibrate the cluster not the car but we will know for sure tomorrow, I'll let you all now what happens!

Yea, it is the cluster that is recalibrated. A quick google search brought up Colorado Speed who does the conversions from 150 to 200

www.NOT-A-SPONSOR.com.org.gov.net.edu

I am not sure what is done to the cluster though

Edit:

I see a mod edited my post to take out the link, but apparently they didn't check the vendor list, seeing as Colorado Speed IS a sponsor.

here is the link again. Maybe they could point you in the right direction for converting back to 150 mph

200mph or 200 KPH? Did the factory F up and install a Canadian KPH cluster?

FYI, SLP never installed a white face overlay only GMMG. I dont even remember SLP selling a white overlay way back when. I think your friend is messing with you on the originality as for a 2000, SLP didn't offer a factory installed air lid at that time. If he says that lid is stock also, then you know he's lying about the gauges.

This car sounds like it was damaged in transit and sent back to be repaired and in the process was not re-stickered.

FYI, you're car wouldn't have the SLP content sticker unless it's a Y2Y RPO in addition to the WU8.

Once I get my laptop fixed I'm going to post alot of pics. As far as the SLP cluster I pulled it out of a 2001 SS myself it has White faced gages and says SLP in White above the tach and speedo. May not be stock??? But neither is my 200 Mph cluster either and I like the White. BTW it is a MPH speedo not a KIlometer

Clean, nice. Were the C4 ZR1 wheels on it when you got it?

No it had grey C5 Z06 wheels on it, I sold them and picked up the ZR1 wheels. I like the ZR1 wheels better my self, the Z06 wheels were 17/18 and I don't like the staggered wheel look

It's not a factory speedo, it was dealer installed for some reason

heres a pic of the speedo

Wow, that speedo looks pretty authentic. If I didn't know that they only come in 155MPH versions, I might have believed it was stock.
