Default DZ 302 Camaro, destroked LS1

Anyone ever hear of this??? I read this in like motor trend in 02 or so, can't say i've seen them but the only thing i could remember it was like 400 horses and was destroked to 302. had options for road race use like brakes and suspesnion modifications. if anyone could fill me in that would be cool.

There is a thread somewhere on this board that discussed it...I think it was never produced except for that one. IIRC, they said something about it winding up to 7500 RPMs or something crazy like that.

I believe it was Pewter. If I remember correctly it had 18 inch TT II's? I also heard that Westech in Ill. did the motor work, but I can not confirm this. It was a nice car!

Good link.

Westech built it. I drove it back in 2001.

I sure remember it... Very nice car. Idled great, and I ran it up to about 7000 or so but from a roll. When I drove the car it had 4.10's but it later had 4.56 gears I hear. Car was very nice. It had some nice ballz but I never beat on it.

I think I remember hearing that pro5.0 mustangs that run 7's run a destroked 351 along with a 101mm turbo. I wonder haw a resleeved ls1 with a short crank would run. PSJ, you may know, has anyone ever tried that type of setup? I'm sure that with the right bearings and if balanced properly, 7500rpm + could be had. Just a thought.

supposively destroked motors run a lot different. high rpms like honda 4 bangers but with more power. they are very high end rpm cars, spin fast but suppose to be pretty flat with torque. this is what i've read though, can't say i've done nor witnessed this.

Yes, they do like alot of rpm. But for street use, this could be useful, you could run a way taller gear, but not have to shift 3 times between every city light. Would be intresting to see how it would respond to boost as well.

the only thing is that the hydrallic lifters float at like 6800. That would be a bad *** engine though.
