Default BMR Suspension's - Project Trilo-G

BMR would like to formally introduce you to “Project Trilo-G”. This is our 2010 Camaro SS shop car that has made a few cameo appearances on LS1Tech.com in the past as we were testing out some new products. However, until now, we haven’t made an exclusive “BMR Project Car” thread highlighting all the great stuff we have done to this car and what we plan to do in the future. The “Trilo-G” concept originates from the three areas of performance driving that we want to be able to dominate: Drag Racing, Performance Handling (Road Course and/or Autocross), and Street Performance. While optimizing the car for each of these conditions, we want to be able to achieve 1 g-force of launch acceleration, 1 g-force of brake acceleration, and 1 g-force lateral acceleration.

Of course we don’t plan on trying to successfully accomplish these goals all at the same time, but rather in 3 distinct phases. We want to show you the modifications that we chose to perform in order to provide the best performance in each of those 3 areas of high performance driving. We are already deep into Phase 1 – Drag Racing. So in Phase 1, we will be showing you the modifications that have already been done to the car and detailing our accomplishments at the drag strip with the car. Our goal here is to obtain 1g launch acceleration on the drag strip. Not only will we be showing you the suspension (which we are particularly proud of), but also other areas, such as the engine, transmission, wheels/tires, forced induction, fuel system, and any other modifications that we feel are pertinent to building a successful drag car.

In Phase 2 – Performance Handling, we will showcase the changes we make that will turn Project Trilo-G into a real “corner carver”, and lead the pack at road course and autocross events. During Phase 2, we want to be able to achieve 1g of lateral acceleration and 1g of braking acceleration while at the track.

In Phase 3 – Street Performance, we will tone it down a bit, and show you what modifications we feel are necessary to have a performance handling machine with enough “street manners” to make it fully capable of daily driving.

We will be updating this thread on a regular basis with new pictures and highlights of individual components, installations, and associated pertinent systems. Feel free to ask any questions along the way. So sit back, read along, and enjoy our journey with Project Trilo-G.

A special thanks to Chevy High Performance magazine for a select couple of pictures below....

Project Trilo-G is back on its feet after taking a short break for a "re-fresh" on the 416 build. Haven't had her out of the shop yet, but should be getting back out on the strip soon. Doesn't look much different from the outside, but here are some details on the internals that were used....

- LS3 Factory Block (bored .010" over)
- Lunati Crank w/ 4" stroke
- Lunati H-Beam Connecting Rods
- Wiseco Pistons (11:1 compression)
- Chrome Moly Hardened Pushrods
- Cadillac Racing Lifters
- Lingenfelter GT9 Cam
- Melling HV oil pump

Default Stock vs. Drag Suspension Package

Take a look at the difference between these two videos. The first one is completely stock suspension....pay close attention to all the sloppy fore/aft movement (counter-rotation) of the spindle. Then compare that to the second video after we installed the DRP007 Drag Race Suspension Package.....NO more unwanted movement.....even on an incredibly hard launch!!!! Pretty incredible difference!!!

Well, we attempted to get our car back out on the track this weekend at Bradenton. Unfortunately, it looks like we've reached the limit on our old Level 2 axles from G-Force. They have served us well for over 100+ 9.XX second runs, and we are pleased to see that they have lasted us beating on them this hard for as long as they have. Chris at G-Force is already working on a set of Level 5 axles for us now!!! Hey, at least we know the car is definitely hooking good!!!

Check out the video for actual footage of the outer axle snapping on us!!!

After further investigation.....looks like the axle sheared clean right where it meets the outer CV joint. Pretty cool pictures!!! Oh well, things break!!! Especially after the continual beating these axles have taken. Looking forward to our upgraded Level 5 Axles from G-Force!!!

Default Fuel System....

We have had a few requests for pictures of the fuel system we are using on Project Trilo-G. So here they are.....

Aeromotive Stealth Fuel System, with the A1000 pump mounted in a 6 gallon fuel cell.

And the relocated battery mounting....

Project Trilo-G is running the Strange Engineering Double-Adjustable Front Coilovers, part number S2063, with a Hyperco 14" 175 lb. spring. Notice....no sway bar mounts, no brake hose support mounts, and no wheels speed sensor cable mounts! Pure Drag Race!!! Same exact coilover GM puts on the COPO!!!

We can get 'em for you!!!

Default TH400 Transmission

Our 2010 SS was originally a 6-Speed Manual car, but we quickly opted for something more suited to the drag strip.

- TH400 Transmission
- 4600 Stall Converter
- Trans Brake tied in with 2-step controller
- Reverse Manual Valve Body
- Prototype Trans Cross-Member with Integrated Driveshaft Safety Loop
- B&M Ratchet Shifter

The TH400 Cross-Member has been a project that we have had on the table for a long time now. We are expecting to finalize this prototype and have it available sometime in 2015 (hopefully early 2015).

Been getting lots of questions lately about the DRP007 Drag Race Suspension Package and the BCP001 15" Brake Conversion Package. So I wanted to elaborate on those items a little bit here.

The DRP007 Drag Race Suspension Package consists of:
- MTCA030 Chrome-moly Rear Lower Control Arms
- TCA033 Single-Adjustable Rear Trailing Arms w/Spherical Rod Ends
- CCK004 Upper Coilover Conversion Brackets
- S5003 Strange Engineering Double-Adjustable Rear Coilovers
- with Hyperco 8"/500 lb. Springs

Because of the straight tubular design of the rear lower control arms, you MUST use the much shorter Strange Coilovers with these LCA's. You cannot use factory length rear shocks or coilovers. The nice thing about this package is it CAN be used as a stand-alone suspension package and still fit certain 17" Drag Wheels over the stock Brembo Brakes. You don't have to buy the brake package at the same time in order to run this suspension package. The package is designed for use with the XSB004 Xtreme Drag Anti-Roll Bar, and is best-suited for use with the TR004 Toe Rods, so if you don't have them already, we do recommend adding those parts to the kit as well.

Once you're ready to make the jump to 15" drag wheels, you can then purchase the BCP001 Brake Conversion Kit, which consists of:
- SPD001 Modified Rear Spindles w/Spherical Bearing Trailing Arm Connection
- BCK003 Anodized Brake Caliper Brackets
- WIL-BMR15BCP Wilwood Brake Components (consisting of...)
- Wilwood 4-Piston Billet Aluminum Brake Calipers
- Wilwood 11.75" Cross-Drilled Brake Rotors
- Wilwood Modified Brake Rotor Hats
- Wilwood Stainless Brake Hoses
- Wilwood Drag Race Brake Pads

We worked directly with Strange Engineering, Wilwood, and Weld Racing to build up the best possible package to allow an easy-to-install 15" conversion package for the 5th Gen Camaro. These parts were designed specifically for use with Weld Racing's 15x10 Weld RT-S wheels, which have a +51mm offset and 7.5" backspace, but "may" possibly fit with other 15" wheels as well. Please give me a call if you have any questions about these kits, or any parts within the kits.

In recent years, the Fifth Gen Camaro has solidified its place as a serious player in the performance world. When the car was released, BMR Suspension was on the cutting edge, building parts for the street, handling, and drag race crowd. Though the independent rear suspension is great for the street and handling guys, the drag race guys were left wanting more. If you’re looking to go fast at the dragstrip without ditching Fifth Gen’s IRS, all you need is BMR.

BMR recently laid down multiple 1.28-second 60’ times at multiple tracks on 275 drag radials. What makes this so impressive is the fact that it was done with off-the-shelf suspension parts. To the best of our knowledge, this gives BMR the second quickest 60’ time in an IRS-equipped Fifth Gen Camaro—second only to the Fark’s Supercar Camaro, which also uses BMR Suspension products.

BMR Suspension’s 2010 Camaro is equipped with BMR’s DRP007 drag race rear suspension package and BCP001 15” rear wheel conversion. Both packages allow you drag race at the highest level without tire size or the IRS being a limiting factor.
