You need to get a top-grade CD-R with a dark dye,
not the pale green cheapo ones. I've done OK with
Maxell Pro, if you can find Verbatim Datalife or any
"archival grade" data CD-Rs these ought to work.
I made a bunch of coasters out of Office Depot
ones before giving up on that grade of blanks.

im using Verbatim CD-R digital vinyl disk right now. AThey were like 20 sumpthin for 50.Mainly becouse they look like little records. Im also using a good cd burned as well. I can burn blue ray disk and watch them on my PS3 but yet its not working. Ive tried using Windows media player Roxie and Nero cd burners.

I guess ill pick up the maxwells in this case sanario. Still cheaper then buying cds lol

Are you burning it as a MP3 CD or as a music CD? I had zero problems with my stock radio when using Roxio, Windows Media Player, etc to just burn a music CD. Give or take 18 songs/disc. Also make sure they are CD-R

Yea, I have always stuck with Verbatim discs and they have treated me well for CDs and DL-DVDs. Good luck

I have the stock Monsoon system in my 2000 T/A. I burned some CD's on Maxell CD-RW and the head unit comes up with an error when I load them into the unit. Are RW's not compatible? If I used Maxell CD-R's would it play then??? Thanks.

The player doesn't know the difference. Some work and some don't, and it varies between individual decks.

I did used to find the black CD-Rs worked well but I use Verbatim DataLifePlus now.

I've always used cheap generic light-green CD-R's found in 50-100 packs at regional electronics stores (NOT Best Buy/Staples/OfficeDepot) and had no problems. It sometimes depends on the age/power of the laser system in the individual deck. Xboxes had a problem of the laser system wearing out over time and the only solution was to replace/modify the laser assembly or buy an entirely new drive. Not saying these things are Xboxes, but it wouldn't suprise me if the drives wear out in the same way. BTW, the drives in the stock headunits are replaceable and interchangeable between years - just find a beat up looking one with a good drive and you're good to go; just unscrew a few bolts.

Of course, it seems your problem was just bad discs.

I've never had a problem with CD readability in my '99 if they were freshly burned and not scratched. I never use RW's - except in 1st gen Xboxes - they're expensive for what they are and slow to read/write to.

The recording format is the same but the reflectivity of the recording material is different. CD-RW discs are far less reflective than CD-R so players must have "multiread" heads to read them accurately. If you can get CD-RW discs to work in a Monsoon head unit then you're just lucky because they aren't designed to play CD-RW discs.

There's a good answer - spend a couple hundred bucks to solve the problem of which 10 cent CD-R blanks you should record with.

Personally I don't think your $50+ adapters look even SLIGHTLY nicer than the one I got from Best Buy (for like $2, by the way, with a friend's employee discount. And yes, I mean literally $2)
