sigh... How should I power my sub? JL Audio VR650-CSi Component System

With my amp, does does this mean it's putting out 278 on the rear channels for the sub? I'm going to pick up a 10" Alpine Type R, but I don't know whether to go with the Dual 4-Ohm or the dual 2-Ohm.
I was thinking of trying the sub with the amp I have. If that's not enough, I was going to pick up a single channel amp (Alpine's M500).

you will definitely want more power than that for a type-r, you would want 500w rms or more.
and no the 278 watts x 2 would only be for 2 speakers hooked up to the amp bridged

from what i see that amp wont handle being bridged at 2ohm's it will over heat real quick.
you would need the have the sub at 4ohms so the dual 2ohm sub is what you want and just wire it to 4 ohms.
the amp might have a tri mode so it would work like that but 278w is not enough for a type r.
i had a type r in a mtx stealth box with a alpine f350(this was a wile ago)and it sounded good but it did need more power and i dont see any plans for rear fill so i say get some rear fill and get that 1 channel for your sub and your set.
