Default DOCK 'N ROLL! Anyone use the Pioneer Blackbird combo?

I saw this in the shop the other day and thought it was a great solution to living in the city! I portable nav that docks to a double din unit in your car? So i can pull up, and eject the blackbird out of the head unit, shut off and lock my car, and have the directions still in my hand so i can finish following the directions by foot? SWEET! Anyone have on installed in their cars?

Well the title says Pioneer but I'm pretty sure you meant Alpine by the links but we had this head unit put in my brothers Aviator

It works really good. Its nice if you have to switch cars, just take the blackbird out and put it in the other car. No problems with it so far (6 months)

Whoops!!! I always get the two mixed! And whats worse is they really arent similar. Expensive yes, the head unit is $1400 and the blackbird is $750. Worht it? If you go on eby yes lookes like they average about $800-$900 for the headunit and about $500 for the blackbird. So ill be happy with that.

Does your brother use the blackbird? Or just the head unit?

He puts the blackbird in his wife's car when they take it on trips or whatever. Or if he knows he will be going down rough roads that he doesn't want to take the aviator on. And I've used it in my car a couple times.

I might still have a few w203's i can blow out along with the Blackbirds.

for me, the price of the whole package would have to be cheaper than a comparable head unit and a cheap little garmin.
sure, the head unit may not flip down to spit out the garmin, but let's assume its for a car with a glovebox.
