Default Charge wire

Does anybody know what size or gauge wire is used for the stock charge wire from the alternator to the battery in a 1998 Camaro SS? Power Master alternator recommends 6 gauge wire.

Is this a high amp alternator? If so you should use 2 gauge minimum.
You can get a set of upgraded cables here.

I think stock cables are more like 4 gauge.
6 gauge wire is 0.1620"

Here is the stock power lead from my car vs. some Kicker 4 gauge.

Stock vs. Knuconceptz 1/0 gauge.

Go with the 1/0 gauge wire, that's what I upgraded mine to!
And while your doing that upgrade your ground cables (engine block to chassis, and battery to chassis)!

Default 2awg

Will using 2AWG charging wire for the alternator, starter, fuse box and ground wire harm my charging system (98 Camaro) instead of using 4 gauge. I have a 150amp Powermaster alternator. Do you guys think 2AWG overkill?

No it will actually help your charging system .. less resistance in the larger wire , more current flow .

It is better to have a wire that will handle the 150amp's than a smaller wire that the 150amp's fry's the wire and burn's your car to the ground .

The starter wire will be fine left stock , just upgrade the BIG 3 .. https://ls1tech.com/forums/stereo-el...lternator.html .

If you want to also upgrade to the fuse box by all mean's go ahead .
I did this on my beater Integra since the wire from the Alternator run's to the fuse terminal and then to the Battery .

I used the Kicker 4 gauge on my Integra's 170amp alternator upgrade so 4 gauge would work just fine for you .

2 gauge is fine, the cables I linked to in post #2 are very good quality.
FYI they are a bit stiffer than stock because of the larger size, making install fun.
