bought a 200amp alternator and my check guages light is on
Hey, i got a new 200 amp alternator for my camaro, put it in, and now my check guages (not check engine) light keeps coming on like 1 or 2 seconds after i start the car up. Is there any way i can delete it? anyway i can drive around again without having a check guages light on? thanks

Did you look at all the gauges to see what is wrong? BTW, the "Check Gauges" light comes on if you have under 1/8 tank of gas. Are you low on fuel?

Computer
Could this be the computer sensing too much amperage and its the computer sending the signal that something is outside the preset parameters. I don't know, but its worth asking someone who might be in the know.

Also make sure you didn't damage the exciter wire. It's the plug that goes into the top of the altenator. With a single red wire attached, I've seen lots of guys damage that wire and never new it was even there. It will cause the check light and your battery will not charge properly.

i thought about the gas, so i filled it up, but it still comes on. i damaged the exciter wire before, but then i replaced it, and it was fine with the regular autozone alternators as far as the check guages light, the only problem with those was they wouldnt hold up at high rpms with my fuel pump attatched, but they never threw a guage light at me. The voltage guage is at the third mark, in between the middle mark and the last 18v mark. its above where it usually is, just right after the second mark, which could be the reason the light is on, but how do i get it to go off? i know other people have had 200 amp alternators.

measure the voltage, the check gauges light might be warning you that your voltage is being regulated too high. Don't try to figure out how to turn it off without knowing why it turned on in the first place.

High amp alternators sometimes only deliver the extra amps when the engine is off idle, at idle they sometimes produce less - maybe computer is seeing less amps and thinks theres a problem?
