Default Power Antenna w/ aftermarket HU issue

Is there a way to keep the antenna up on a Trans Am when switching sources on an aftermarket head unit? I originally had my amp remote wired into the power antenna lead because with the factory head unit, the antenna stayed up when ever the stereo was on. But with the new head unit, switching to the CD player or aux sends the antenna down, which shuts the amp off.

Why not use the remote turn-on lead from your aftermarket head unit for your amp? Then both the antenna and the amp will work as intended.

Some aftermarket head units have a switchable option that lets you select whether the antenna is raised all the time or just when using the radio. Check your HU's owners manual to see if that option is available.

all my previous radios had the antenna up whenever the unit was on but when my screen crapped out i borrowed a buddies sony xplod headunit and antenna would come on for the radio source but when source was switched it would go down. didnt bother me too much. btw-its nice to have the remote wire ran to the instrument cluster fuse so when key is on (gauges working)-amp is on but when you want to listen to music without draining your battery you just turn the key to ACC.

How does having it hooked up to ACC not drain the battery? Accessory power is still drawing 12v... only difference is switched not constant.

remote wire isnt hooked up to ACC. remote wire hooked up to cluster. key turned ON-forward-cluster/gauges work=amp on. key turned to ACC-backwards-guages not on=amp off

I see where your going with this... It won't drain the battery AS MUCH because the guages are off, I thought you were saying not at all. Thanks for the clarificaiton!

there should be a remote amp turn on wire coming out of the deck, and an antenna out... just switch from antenna to remote amp out.
