Default Will these work in place of stock monsoon speakers?

JL Audio 6W3v3-4

JL Audio TR650-CSi

I'm concerned about the mounting depth of the subs. I can't recall if you could go over 4 inches deep in the sail panels.

What car? The Z06 came with Bose (rather than Monsoon) didn't it?

You can use most component sets in the doors of a Firebird but it's more dificult in a Camaro because the components are mounted coaxially - there aren't many coaxial components on the market.

A similar problem exists for the sail panel subs - there aren't many 6.5" 4-ohm DVC subs for Firebirds or 6.5" 2-ohm subs for Camaros. Other than what Kee Audio offers, the only other popular choice is the eD 7kv.2 but they're a little deep and require spacers to mount.

Ian (Kee Audio) has done a lot of research into what works well with the stock Monsoon system and I don't think you'll find a better option than the CDTs. I have them myself and have been very pleased with the sound quality, power handling, and overall quality of the speakers.

If you are looking for something other than that then I suggest you really want to get rid of the Monsoon system and build something with an aftermarket amp and wider selection of speaker options.

This is for my 02 WS6. So would I be good with the mounting depth on the JL subs?

Probably not. The eD 7kV.2 subs (now called e3.6) have a mounting depth of 3.5" and require a spacer. The JL subs have a mounting depth of over 4" so they likely would cause problems with the trim panel even if you used a thick enough spacer. Besides, they are only single voice coil so you would be giving up half the available power of the dual voice coil setup used in Firebird Monsoon sail panels.

I have removed my whole monsoon system and I used the JL Audio TR650-CSi in all four main locations. I have a JL Audio stealthbox, so I didn't need sub's in the sail panels.

So the CDT CL-6's or CL-6E's are a good replacement for Trans Am's monsoon sail speakers?

They will work but they are 4-ohm SVC so they are not the ideal replacement in a Firebird since you will be giving up one of the two channels in each sail panel.

Kee Audio can give you more information - he has extensively tested the combinations he sells.

His package says CDT CL-6 sail speakers is why I ask and they show multiple CL-6's, even on his site. I can't do the package right now as my heads have to be repaired.

As long as the speaker depth in the sail panels isn't over 3" , you shouldn't need spacers or clearancing in the sail panels to fit the speakers.
