Default Security light

So the almighty security light came on several months ago, and hasn't went away.

Ive tried:
New ignition key
Ignition switch
Theft deterrent relay

What else is there to replace so I can get rid of the light?

No, that's what it's called. It is, however, the type of part that is usually OEM only. Like the PCM (Powertrain Control Module - the engine computer), it's not usually available as an aftermarket replacement part. The GM part number for a 96 BCM is 16243951.

Before you buy a BCM I would check the resistance of the keys, then check the resistance of a key in the ignition at the plug at the bottom of the steering column-should be within 5 ohms of the key resistance.THEN and most importantly, check resistance of the wires that are the input to the BCM to make sure it's getting the proper input-again within 5 ohms according to the service manual. If the BCM is getting the proper resistance and the security light still lights, I would be fairly certain it's the BCM.

Wait!Wait! My previous post MAY be in error.I don't have a wiring diagram for a '96- only a '95 or'99.On the '95 the resistance fron the key is read by the Theft Deterent Module and on the '99 the key resistance goes to the BCM so disregaurd my previous post as I can't make a judgement here due to lack of info.Sorry!Hope you get it fixed-Best of luck!
