That does not mean they're in good condition. You have to remove the bulb and look at the contacts inside the socket for corrosion. But first you should check the bulbs because the problem may be simply burned out bulbs.
Headlights popping up and down is usually the first symptom of damaged gears within the headlight motor... especially if you hear a grinding sound when you turn on the headlights. There are a variety of fixes from a free procedure all the way to replacing the plastic gears with brass ones.

Ok so my sockets were badly corroded so I cleaned them out real well put in new bulbs with "bulb grease" to prevent water from corroding them anymore. Checked them and voila they work flawlessly. NOW new issue is mysteriously my radio won't turn off when I shut the car off unless I manually turn it off. What gives there?

Disregard I'm a retard. Forgot that since I had the windows down and t-tops off, I shut the car off by leaning in the window. So since I didn't open the door it didn't go off. Duuuh

I have a question..sorry to bump an old thread, but maybe someone can help me...I have an A4, so no hatch issues, but will just unplugging the DRL prevent the blinkers from working?

Wow. Revive a four year old thread just to make sure we know it's not about being cool even though the OP stated that was his reason? Mappinsj has the right idea - replace the incandescent bulbs with LED bulbs to handle the heat problem but make sure you either add load resistors or switch to an electronic flasher.

Great thread, thanks for the info. Just bypassed my DRL's (like you can see the little amber turn signals anyways) and disabled the auto headlights. Those were the 2 things that annoyed me the most.
