Windows Auto Crack When Opening Doors. What would it take?
I've noticed almost all new cars that have pillarless doors have this feature. Eclipses, Mercs, Bmws, Mustangs. What would it take to make it work on our cars? Its a good idea really, I think with new seals this would create a better seal for longer. I've been trying to research it a bit, but i havent found anything on here. How could we make it work?

When you open the door of a car with this feature, the window rolls down a little bit (like 1/4"-1/2"), so when you go to close the door, you aren't fighting the air pressure to close it, and once closed it automatically rolls back up. C6 Corvettes have this feature, which I really liked when I drove one around for a week a couple years ago.

The 2005+ Mustang has this feature. The reason for this is not for pressure release but due to seal design. The seal design of those doors is closer to the seal design of pillar door in which the seal has an outer edge and you can't just push the door open since the glass goes partially up into the seal. Thus they have the window drop 1/2 inch automatically to clear the seal. In the F-body, you don't need this since the door glass doesn't go into the seal, it just rests against it.

It may be novel and "cool" now, but its a very odd tweak that's just one more gadget to break. Can you imagine what will happen when the mustang window motors go out? Those owners will need a crowbar to open their doors.
On the F-Bodies, this "feature" will just work to wear out the motors and window seals faster. If you want to put energy in to a Mustang "trick," you might want to try for the sequential tail lights first.

On the Mustang you can open the door if there is a malfunction
My 05 has that feature and got caught out in freezing weather once (normally not driven winter) and the window iced up and wouldnt come down. I was just very careful with opening the door and it was fine.
MiniCooper also has autowindow feature but its nothing but trouble. In the mustang if it freezes up once it thaws you just reindex the window. On the mini you cant and the dealer has to re program the computer biggest hassle ever
