Default weird power problem

i have a 98 trans am and my check gauges light came on. my battery showers to be at about 10 volts. but i check it at the battery with the car running and it's 14.6volts at idle and 14.4 with the lights on at idle. so whats going on here? theres no fuse for the gauges cuz they are all working aside from the volt gauge. also if i rev up to 3100 rpms the check gauges light goes off. but doesn't raise on the volt meter. any help is greatly appreciated. thanks

The most likely cause is loose or corroded battery terminals. Take them off and give them a good cleaning then see if the problem goes away.

You could also have a bad battery. What does it read when the car isn't running? (You're reading alternator output not battery voltage when the car is running.) You can have your battery load tested for free at many auto parts stores.
