Alpine CDA-9886

I've always been a fan of Alpine products and this one just proves to me how right I am.

yea alpine makes a special cord to hook up to their radios. hooks in the back of the radio, then to the part of the ipod where you charge and sync it so it charges while it plays and you can control the ipod through the head unit. i have mine ran to the glove box.

It's a 4 year old JVC with a USB jack on the front and unlike most newer radios, it's not just for charging or an Ipod. It's actually so you can plug a 4gb USB thumb drive full of music right into it. i love it.

Pioneer P3100DVD with 6LE's vinyl wrapped bezel. I love it, but I wish I had gone with the 7" instead. This is from before my swap cause the auto shifter is still in there.

hey dave, since you've owned your car now for 15 years, how many aftermarket head units have you had in that time?

LOL - Stop making me feel old!!!!! Actually, I've only had one other unit in there a Panasonic unit I put in back in 1999 (other than stock of course) and when I redid the interior this year decided I would do it right with new amps, HU and SUB. Of course all the proper wiring and sound deadening. Sounds awesome now and finally have better tunability and upgraded features like BlueTooth and Ipod integration. I really love this Kenwood unit and prob won't be changing for a long time to come.

That's funny. I had like 6 in my car. Lots of experimenting though. I had 2 Clarions, 1 Pioneer, 1 Panasonic, and 2 JVC. Was getting ready to put another JVC (AVX77) in when I sold the car. Here's a couple of pics of the old AVX1 I had in it:

and one of the Panasonic that was there for awhile....sounded good too...I was suprised by the sound quality.

LOL you're only a year older than me, you've just had your car twice as long. I bought mine in may 2004 and put in the jensen mp3 player and CD changer out of my old supercoupe thunderbird in there. when the mp3 player stopped reading CD's 4 years ago i replaced both it and the changer with the jvc and its built in USB port and at that time had a 1GB drive with all the music from the 6 disks in the changer on it and now i've got a 4gb with more music on it but it's still got about 2 gbs free on it currently.

Yup, I loved my Panasonic as well as the quality was amazing and the features on the h/u were pretty cool and lit up at night. I had the Panasonic CQ-DF88 model and it was wayyy ahead of it's time in 99' but really wanted an update that had Ipod/phone control.

Here is a pic of my old one (couldn't find any from it in the car):

It looks similar to a HU mount my dad has in his 04 impala from best buy and yeah i think a small phone could slide in there. I prefer the type like i got from best buy a few years ago as seen in my car that puts the deck in the middle of the opening as opposed to the top.

DOH!!!! I just bought one. I hope your experience was from a long time ago when I know they were bad...

I bought a CDX-GT740UI purely because the UI was far better (IMO) than any other HU out there (Built in CD Player was a req so I couldn't go with a media center or whatever you call it).

I just installed an older JVC unit I had in my S-10 and it sounds absolutely killer! I'll get some pics later and post them up.
