Our cars came with a radio frequency remote, which in my opinion is far superior to infrared. (And you don't need an infrared orb dangling from you rear view mirror or other part of the car.)

I guess you're talking about an IR remote for an aftermarket head unit. Your original question didn't specify - it sounded like you were looking for an alarm remote.

What make and model of head unit? If it originally came with an IR remote then the SWI-X is one way to go. But you'll need the original IR remote to program the SWI-X. If it's a recent model that supports wired remote control then you can get the appropriate adapter based on the head unit brand (SWI-PS for Pioneer and Sony, SWI-JACK for JVC, Alpine, Clarion, and Kenwood) and you won't need to use IR at all.

Lol yeah you right I guess that I should have explained myself a lil better... its a jensen vm9311ts. From I have read it says that it comes with the infrared red. The hard part is gonna be hooking it up, I've never installed one before.
