Exclamation stock headunit harness hacked...

Ok so whoever installed my last head unit chopped off the stock harness connector and directly spliced the wires into the after market head unit.

I'm going to be installing my new head unit soon and would like to do a "clean" install. How can I go back to the stock harness connector to make my life easier in the future (whenever I decided to upgrade my head unit again)?

Thanks!

This very subject came up just a few days ago. Contact Kee Audio - he has the replacement pigtail to repair the factory harness connector.

I messaged him, but I'm sure he's busy. I don't see it on his website, can someone link me please?

Thanks

You could always go to a junkyard and pull one from a similar year Firebird or Trans Am. The Camaro harness colors are a little different from the one in the Birds.

Metra part number is 71-1858. It is available for $10 on Amazon and probably a lot of other places online. You might even find it at your local auto parts store.

Thanks, I was able to get in touch with Ian before your post and placed my order. I googled the part number you listed, but I think it's actually 70-1858 ( correct me if I'm wrong).

71-1858 is the vehicle side. 70-1858 is to add a radio. therfore you need both

pentavolvo is correct - 71-1858 is the replacement for the connector on the factory harness, 70-1858 is the harness adapter you would attach to an aftermarket head unit so that it will plug into the factory harness. If you are restoring with a factory Monsoon head unit you will need only the first one (71-1858) but if you're installing an aftermarket HU you will need both.

Thanks guys, yeah that makes sense. I only need the factory side (to repair back to stock); my new head unit will come with a free harness and antenna connector.
