Default Is there a 6 CD changer that plugs into factory plugs......

My factory 12 CD changer is starting to give me issues. Id like to just swap it easily, is there a good unit that plugs into the factory plugs?

The only CD changer that will work is a factory one. The only changer originally supplied with f-bodies was the 12-disc but GM did use a 6-disc in other models that would probably work. You can probably pick up a 12-disc in our for sale section for a very reasonable price. eBay might be another good source.

Several years ago there was a company that made a CD changer that would work as a factory replacement for various makes and models using adapters but it was a piece of crap and I think the company has since gone out of business.

I'm changing mine over to MP3 aka Ipod with the changeover kit.
No more skipping while driving due to road bumps.

Yes they are.
Both utilize MP3 formatting.

Sorry, no they aren't. MP3 is a file compression format that is used on many different portable music players as well as most modern head units. The iPod is just one of those devices and in fact uses AAC as its native file format. AAC files are labeled M4A or M4P depending on whether they have digital copy protection or not (M4P for "protected"). The fact that the iPod can make use of the MP3 format does not make them equivalent or "also known as". That would be like saying a Trans Am is also known as premium gasoline.

I really just have no clue about stereo's and components. I'll buy whatever is needed, but I have no idea.

Can someone just recommend a brand (6 CD changer) and whatever adapter plugs and/or wires I need....and where to get them.

My other alternative is to go to a car stereo shop and let them do it....but thats like taking my car to the dealership for a brake job....I don't want to get ripped off.

Right now I have a 12" woofer in a stealth box, a 1,000 watt amp and Matts speakers throughout the car. Factory Monsoon deck. System has been in the car for 9 years and is still perfect, sounds awesome. I just need this new CD changer.

Thanks.

Perhaps I wasn't clear in my earlier post... the ONLY CD changer you can connect to a factory radio is a factory original equipment replacement. You CAN NOT buy any other brand of changer and use adapters to connect it to a factory radio - it won't work. Even though the factory changer is made by Pioneer, you can't even make a Pioneer changer work with the factory radio.

Yes... It's either a factory replacement or a head unit replacement (to aftermarket) and its compatible CDC.

Ok guys, I see. Thanks.

THEN......since I was looking into a new head unit too.....what double din with a big screen would you recommend? A unit that can have the part disabled where you CAN watch a DVD movie while driving.....lol

What 6 CD changer would you recommend to go with it?

Thanks.

I won't be helping you out anymore, and I doubt anyone else here will, either.

That's strange, because my 1995 Z28 had a factory head unit in it and i went to the local stereo shop and they put a Sony CD player in the trunk. The factory unit was a piece of garbage so I had it replaced.

Like most people here don't disable them...............lol

And what moron is gonna go out and sit in his/her car in the parking lot to watch a DVD movie on a tiny screen...when they can watch it in the house on a big screen. I want it disabled so a passenger can watch something if they want to.

I wasnt gonna, but to have a new CD changer I guess I need a new head unit.

I have an apple 4 so id like it compatible with that. Other than that just a decent unit. No need to spend big bucks.

I think what pentavolvo is asking is why would you need a CD changer if you get a new head unit that has USB and iPod/MP3 player compatibilty? You just load up your music on a flash drive or your player and have everything available without fussing with CDs. Plus you get title and artist information on the display (some even display album cover art).

If all you want is a CD changer, there are plenty of the factory changers (12-disc - I'm not sure why you need a 6-disc) available for reasonable prices... far less than a new double DIN head unit and bezel.

And no, nobody will be recommending a head unit with details about disabling the safety feature of preventing playing video while moving. If they do, the post will be deleted and the thread locked. We don't support anything as stupid (and illegal) as playing video visible to the driver while moving. Claiming it's for a passenger isn't going to save you from a ticket or being distracted by it.

I see.....so just ditch using CD's altogether, never thought of that.

So whats a good unit, not top of the line but decent?
