Default HID Questions

I've looked over and over for HID kits and things like that. I found one from DDMTuning, but then I saw where someone said to order new headlights because when you put the HID's in a reflective housing it's crazy for other drivers.

My question is, what headlamp would I use then? What is this whole "projector" thing, and what do I use for fog lights?

Sorry if this thread seems repetitive, but I just need some straight answers. Thanks!

I posted this over in Newbie Tech but thought it'd be better here.

Check out this thread:
(Especially the explanations in my posts)
https://ls1tech.com/forums/appearanc...on-thread.html

This thread is also very informative:
(it explains what a projector is and what it does)
https://ls1tech.com/forums/appearanc...e-you-buy.html

Also check out the Lighting FAQ.
https://ls1tech.com/forums/appearanc...hting-faq.html

Since you have a Camaro, you can get the Morimoto Mini-H1 projectors and retrofit them into the stock housings:
(its really easy)
https://ls1tech.com/forums/appearanc...rojectors.html

Another option but not as good an output is the Sonar projectors on ebay. Their output isn't as good as the Morimoto mini-H1 or OEM HID projectors, but its easier to install since they are a complete housing.

Camaro or Firebird? Either way, the answer is yes.

BLS has projector options for the:
1993-1997 Camaro
1993-1997 Firebird
1998-2002 Firebird
.... and rumor has it the possibility of something for the 1998-2002 Camaro at somepoint

Most of the default options are correct for the 1998-2002 Camaro.
Adapter Plate: 9006
Ballasts: Morimoto 3Five (35w)
Bulbs: H1 Morimoto 3Five 4300K
CCFL Angel Eyes: Pick what you want
Projectors: LHD (North America)
Re-Sealing Glue: No
Shrouds: Pick the style you want
Harness: Relay 9006

However, someone reported that the 9006 bulbs are clocked different on the Camaro than other cars so the 9006 adapter plate may not work out for you. However you can still install these projectors, probably by making your own adapter plate (check out the thread I linked above for more info on that).

However, before you buy anything read through the install threads on here (I replied to your question on here) and also read through threads on HID Planet.

Do research and learn about what you are getting into before buying anything.

For example, if you already have a HID kit or plan to get it elsewhere, you can get the projectors alone from The Retrofit Source for $120 (I'd still get the bulbs from them though for $25).

They also have some other options for projectors which have better output, but are much more difficult to install. The Morimoto Mini-H1 is a great retrofit projector though. Many people on HID Planet have used them.

Maybe I missed it, but a link for the LT1 Camaro projectors would be great, as we can't just stick a new headlight in there as far as I know.

Be prepared to wait a long fu*king time if you order from those bastards at DDM. Took them FOREVER to ship out a simple fog light kit and they took even longer with my brother's order when he ordered all new LEDs/HID's for his car.

There are some serious DDM nut huggers on here. People are going to start chiming in with "...but they have a lifetime warranty". What good does a lifetime warranty do me when I can't get a hold of them?! Took forever to get someone to call me back!

DDM used to be good. From what I've seen, they've slipped lately.

When I had an LT1 car, I just stuffed an HID kid in the stock housing, but I never ordered from DDM. I never really looked into how to do an HID kit. So atleast this way I'll be doing it right.
