another option is from PAC-audio http://www.pac-audio.com/
I'm pretty sure you have to ditch the cd changer though, as the ipod interface plugs into the back of the head unit where the cd changer plugs in. I have an old version of the PAC-audio one and it works (steering wheel controls too).

ok i read the reviews on the crutchfeild usa.spec unit and people are saying it works for days then dies its not rugged enough for the automotive envrionment. still on the fence about the pac unit need to do more research. is there an adaptor that will let me swap head units and keep steering wheel controls.

zfast question with the steering wheel controls on the pac interface on your car what steering wheel controls work? and how does it control the i pod... just palylists or just songs. is the i pod locked when pluged in bassically how do u control what music u listen to. and as for the rca outputs on that all i gotta go is wire up my after market sub box and hook the rca to the pac converter. no shitty line lever connection? cause if im axein the cd changer i get one of thoes stealth boxes... this could be good

I have been using the PIE (Peripheral Interface Electronics) adapter called the GM9-AUX. My MP3 player is just a stadard 3.5mm input, so i used this. (non-sponsor link removed)

It's been trouble free for 3 years now. The PAC requires the disc changer to be installed, since you have one i guess it doesn't matter.

You'll find way more info here:
second post especially.

I had the same stock setup in my '01 SS. The CD changer was junk, though. I swapped out the changer and head unit with an Alpine HU with an ipod controller. I ran an extension cable to the center glove box and keep an ipod in the car permanently as my cd changer. And the steering wheel buttons still work by using a PAC SWI-JACK.

This is probably more than you want to do since it sounds like you want to keep the factory HU. However, I can't complain about my setup at all.

Just songs...seek and skip (back/forth). Anything else you have to do on the ipod itself (select a playlist). Not sure on the RCA thing, sorry.

They have this thing for Sirius/XM head units. I'm sure it would work with the headphone jack of an iPod/iPhone. All the back of the XM receiver docks is, is an audio output. Just hook it between the antenna and the head unit. not sure if it eliminates the terrestrial radio, or just has the input over ride it.
