On my 2000 Z28 the volume will not go up. When the volume **** is turned all the way up the music will play at maybe 1/5 the volume it should. I have stock HU and speakers. It does play at the same volume on all 4 corners of the car when I adjust the fade, etc. so all speakers are working, just very quietly. The car did sit for two years and the speakers played normally prior to that. I did install 3 guages (boost, fuel pressure, and Air/fuel) above the stock headunit in the vents. I did not tap into any of the speaker wires for the install though. Any suggestions what the problem could be?

BTW, the CD player plays normal. Only the radio plays quietly...

Sounds like its something internal in the HU to me.
