Switchbacks have little purpose when there's a red film in the way. Get red or white, both will be red after the film (though the white might be a slightly brighter shade of red).

You will lose output using White LED. Concerning LEDs, put the matching color LED behind the lens.
Red LED behind Red Lens.
Amber LED behind Amber Lens.
ETC.
Red LED behind Red Lens.
