Talking New CD Player and LED Lights Installed with PICS

A local stereo shop was having a huge tent sale and I decided to stop by and see what they had. I ended up walking out of there with the KENWOOD EXCELON KDC-X696 unit, more info on the unit here http://www.kenwoodusa.com/Car_Entert...ivers/KDC-X696 . Overall I'm happy with the unit and has everything I need and with it combined with my polk audio door, mid and hatch speakers the sound is simply amazing. Anyways on to the pics.

The old is a Pioneer Super Tuner 3, great unit just time for an upgrade

The NEW unit is a KENWOOD eXcelon KDC-X696

Also has Blue tooth, here is a pic of were I placed the mic

Here is some night pictures with all the LED bulb swap in the gauge cluster, ac/heat control ***** etc.

And one with the shift light

Love the way they look. Only issue I have ran into with the Kenwood decks, is they seem to have issues with iPods and will often freeze, leaving me with the only option of resetting it. It's not a big deal, but it got somewhat annoying. Might only be me, but happened with all 3 Kenwoods I had. KDC-HDxxxx series though.

my LEDs look just like yours, except when I put LEDs in the HVAC it seemed to have a blue effect... idk whats up with that. The red almost looked purple. I know the gauges have a blue backing, did you have to remove anything similar from the hvac controls or just swapped in LEDs?

For the gauge cluster i used WLED-X5 LED wide angle wedge base bulbs. You will need 5 of them.

For the heat/ac controls i used Wedge base LED bulb 74-xHP3. You will need 2 of them.

For the lights in the doors i used Wedge base LED bulb 74-xHP3. You need 2 of them 1 for each door.

For the rear view mirror i used a Festoon bulb 4410-x9. you need 2 of them

For the Rear Hatch Light i used a Rigid Loop Festoon bulb RL4410-xHP9

Ive got the ones for my HVAC, I got the ones you listed. Am I missing something on the install? The two lights at the top (between the *****) did not appear to be replaceable.

To be honest I did not work with it much, It was hot out and I said **** it.

When you went to install the leds into the dash what light spaces did you put the new lights into? i was looking at the sticky with the led replacement and the guy uesd 8 bulbs instead of just 5.

If you look thru the holes when you remove the bulbs, you can see where the light is going. There are only 5 that control the back light. The two that are closest to where the steering column is, are for the turn signals. The one at 2 o clock position from the one on the right, in the pic ( from the turn signal) is for the high beam.

Looks great, dude! I installed LEDs in my gauge cluster several years ago, and I've been delighted with this simple, yet effective, upgrade! Nicely done!

Are you talking about the fog light switch and the ASR switch if so those can be replaced i just never got around to it as my car got totaled a couple weeks after doing this. I think you have to use 2 3mm led bulbs per switch and you have to solder them in and add a resistor again i think, ill have to look at older threads and make sure.

No, the hvac controls. I got the same exact lights as you did and I suppose I did not know how to install them in the hvac panel. On my car there was not a wedge base socket.

I know the fog and asr can be replaced.

I actually meant to post this several days ago, I was apparently being a bitch. I was not getting a good enough grip on the little bulbs. Got the leds in the HVAC panel now, damn they are bright. atrain59 did list the correct bulbs.

just got my bulbs.......got the doors.....rear view...and back hatch installed......not ready to to the HVAC or dash yet.....but they are really BRIGHT.....but the rear view bulbs were a PITA to install......it was worth it if only to cut down on the heat damage that the regular bulbs create
