VSS/Speedo issues?

VSS/Speedo issues? Hey guys,
I asked over in the LS4 threads but haven't got any answers so I thought I'll put it here with all the electronics experts
My GXP has a problem when creeping up to a stop sign or just slowing down to stop in general, the speedo will go f'ing nuts bouncing around and then come back to 0. The HUD does it as well so I'm not sure if this is all VSS related?
The odd time when this happens, the car will feel like it's in 2nd gear when starting out and then when the speedo goes to normal, it downshifts to 1st like it should. And the other day it even had a really weird episode where when all this happened, the engine seemed to misfire slightly and the rpms dropped quite a bit for a second.
