Default Alternative speakers to CDT CL-61V.2 6.5"

I am looking for a pair of 6.5" convertible speakers for my non-monsoon sound system (RPO W73) (door has tweeter/midrange that are mounted separately but wired coax-head unit 4 channel ?). I know the CDT CL-61CV.2 are recommended but was curious of if there were any other options.

I recommend just saving up for the CDT set, but short of that.... PrecisionPower or Powerbass, maybe. Not many low end brands making component sets, and even fewer convertibles.

What kind of car? The W73 option wasn't offered in LS F-bodies.

98 WS6 Vert (98 did not have the monsoon in the verts) RPO W73....just door speakers (separate tweeters) and rear sails; no amp. Was wanting to replace the doors which sound terrible and no doubtingly are dry rotted. Thanks.

That's really interesting information. I was unaware of that system and could not find the W73 RPO code in any option listings but I did find it in the parts manual. I will have to update the Monsoon FAQ sticky. Thanks.

The W73 (CD) or the W59 (Cassette) appear to be unique to the 98 Verts. Wondering if anyone can comment on how this 6 speaker setup sounded new from the factory before I start replacing components ?

This weekend I have started on replacing my window motors and so far I removed the driver's side speakers since I had the door panel off....as I expected Surround foam is dry rotted !! Apparent source of the terrible sound- no doubt the rears are the same. The Tweeters have a built in HPF (cap) and the midrange woofer has it's own crossover for low freq response; also the midwoofers are 4 ohms. Has anyone replaced speakers in this specific setup and if so did you go with the CVTs or possibly just go with a 6.5" 2 way coaxial and disconnect the in door tweeters ?

There are lots of non Monsoon options if that's your goal. I only use the CL-61CV.2 when it comes to the Monsoon system because it is the correct 2ohm impedance and some other things that it does.
With the non Monsoon you have way more options because your not limited to the Monsoon amps unique requirements. I have lots of quality speakers at or slightly under $100.00 that will work with a non Monsoon system.
