most new GMs have a data serial wire that is in the head unit , it has different functions including driving some of the warning lights , (example: you have use the head unit to turn off the" change oil light" in new Impalas) . Metra now makes an adapter that allows you get rid of the stock head unit. before (especially if the radio said RDS) you had to relocate the old stock unit to retain those functions. the adapter is not cheap but neither was the relocation harness. you can check it out at www.metraonline.

Metra's harness is nice but if you speak to one of their techs they will tell you it is better to keep the factory radio somewhere in the car because certain people have found out that the car will not comunicate right with the diagnostics machine if the car has to go back to the dealership.

If you don't have OnStar or Bose, you can get a Peripheral GMCO adapter and everything will work perfectly.

Not a problem..........just requires a different adapter. The Peripheral part number if you have Bose is GMAH24B.
