Question cd changer relocation?

I've made a fiberglass sub box to go in the driver side compartment in the trunk. thats where my cd changer is though. So i covered the top and sides with felt and plan to mount in one the rear deck lid right behid the rear seat. The problem is, I don't know how to secure it down. I'm nervous about putting a bolt or screws in b/c thats right above the gas tank! I have also heard of people putting a piece of wood under the carpet and screwing it to that the wood. Your thoughts?

take a piece of mdf cut it a little bigger than the changer use liquid nails to secure it, let it dry a day pull the carpet back over it and then screw the changer to it, the tank is too close btw its like 1/4 inch from the metal
