Default rearview mirror power

i need to tap into the power for the map lights in the rearview mirror. i just moved to va and radar detectors are illegal here, but i finally managed to mount mine above my rearview mirror, and you cant see it at all from the outside, the only thing for now is the power wire hanging down. help anyone?

I got power from the courtesy fuse. Ran the cord down the pillar and into the fuse box took about ten minutes.

Best Buy and places like that sell a direct wiring kit that allows you to do what Mustang5.0hater did. Sell for about 10 bucks, no splicing into wires needed.

Besides, power to the courtesy lights in the mirror is live all the time so you would have to turn off the detector every time you shut off the car. Running a wire to the fuse box allows connecting to an ignition controlled circuit so the detector goes off and on with the ignition switch.
