Default What radar detecter to get?

I just upgraded from a 96' Deville to a M6 GTO so its alot harder to keep my speed under control these days . Iam in need of a radar detector but iam not sure which one to get. I havnt been pulled over todate and would lke to keep it that way iyh. So what is the best one for $250-$300? Also are they legal in Cali?
Thanks Alot!

In Cali you need a radar detector that has pop signal. Im not sure valentine has it yet. Pop, is the new signal their using in Cali to stop speeding automobiles. Do a search on radar detectors and you'll get a lot more info.

I believe the passport if pretty good. Do a search for the valentine one or passport. There was a big thread about which is the best.

From what I have read, you can't go wrong with the passport or valentine 1.

The new 8500 X50 supports the POP bands.

I had the valentine and returned it.
I bought the Escort 7500 - HELL of a lot better radar.
I have the 8500 in my TA, the 7500 in my winter beater, and the Solo in the wifeys car.
Escort is the way to go.

I got a Bell on sale at ciruit city for 100 and couldn't be happier. It is the model usually around $140 that has the voice, it works great.

I've got a V1 and love it. I got mine for a killer deal, $150 for a used one. But I was planning on paying full price for one. Since owning one, I've found that the arrows are worth their weight in gold.

I've seen Bel RX 65's on Ebay today for as low as $230 brand new, retail normally for about $330. Hands down the best available, although just barely better than the Escort since they are essentially the same company now. Can't go wrong with either Bel RX 65 or Escort 8500. Don't pay full price for one though through a normal retailer, they have a hefty markup.

Radartest.com is owned by escort.......and is one of the only to rate the 8500 better then the V1. The only reason it ever gets a better rating is b/c of the price.

I have tested both the v1 and the escort side by side, both do pretty well from the front but the v1 can pick up cops 10 times better if they are behind you.

haha, I was just getting ready to post that radartest.com is a biased site.

V1 is the way to go hands down. It is also flash upgradeable for the future. No need to buy or send back the old one.

passport 8500 or V1. with the V1 you get arrows that point in the direction of the signal. i went with the 8500 because i didnt think the arrows were worth $100.

the V1 is upgradeable though so you won't have to keep getting the newest model.
