Very nice. I would have wanted the A/C controls more accessable though.

That looks like he spent ALOT of time planning it. I'm not sure I would want to mount all those components in the dash though...

Yeah. Where the hell is Snootch? I figured he'd fill us in on this here.

Did anyone else notice he said he put ALOT of Arctic Silver heatsink compound? I hope he ment that he added enough to just cover the chip surface. That could fry his chip out.

ALso, I bet someone could make a custom program that would allow you to control the AC system from the computer. Well, atleast some of it.

That would be totally badass, I would do it in a second if I wasnt broke and could control the AC from the PC. I know there is a company that makes PCI controller cards that can control electronics such as power windows. I dunno maybe it can handle the AC too. I dont remember the name of the company though I just remember they do exist

it would not be possible to control the AC in our cars with a computer since it is not electronic controls. you would have to put some sort of solenoid on each control and have the computer control the solenoid. would be absoutely bad ***.

Is there room between the two sunvisors to setup a small overhead console with the A/C switches. Would necessitate extending the wiring and connections etc but would be much better than in the glove box..

or even under the driver seat wouldnt be too bad, i only use air and defrost so its not liek it would be hard to figure out. that computer would be tight to hook up the the obd-II, you could do so much with it. and i bet you could do the ac and stuff with out solenoids, isnt it an electrical system??

hey all, just saw this thread, thanks VIP1.
I'll try to answer as many questions as I can.
First, the total cost of all the parts so far is $850.

Secondly, the AC controls aren't all that hard to reach, I just reach over, flip the lid open, adjust it, and flip it closed. Takes like two seconds.

Third, the dash bezel and trim is all ABS plastic, and the trim piece with hood is the stock ABS part that's been modified.

The keypad under the screen is the control for my Rockford Fosgate EPX2 eq/crossover. It allows me to change eq settings and crossover points from the drivers seat. It has since been moved to the inside lid of the center console. The reason I installed all the equipment in the dash was simply due to the fact that after the audio install, there isn't anywhere else to put it. Also, it allows me to cool it off using the dash ac vents.
About controlling the ac from the computer, it would work if the f-body didn't use a vacuum line or a cable in the controls. Oh, also, there isn't enough room under either seat for the equipment. If anyone is interested in doing this to their ride, check out the forums at www.mp3car.com or PM me if you have any questions.

ive scoured the mp3car forums for anyone who might have done this on a 97 camaro or a camaro with the ls1 interior, but have found nothing. what i want to do is mount a 7" screen and not remove the ac controls, so i think what im gonna do is this:

i measured my space, and i could mold a 7 inch screen into this red area, the only thing is, if i do mold it, ill have to bondo and paint, and i dont know how that will come out. i have done plenty of bondo on cars, but never really tried it on something like this. I also want to add that nice little lip like snootch, to keep out the sun and stuff.

theses are the parts i want to use:
MP3 Car Lilliput Screen
Little Pc

with this tiny pc i can place it undermy seat, or build a custom mount under one of the passenger seats, no-one ever sits back there anyways.

the only other thing im concerned about is power, and if my alternator can support it. right now im running 2 amps and 2 subs, and my power is kinda weak, so would a pc and monitor cause any more issues?

so snootch, does your setup take its toll on your battery or is everything just fine?

my total cost would be like 1400.00

does anyone know of a small computer like the one i listed that is cheaper??
