Default Calling electronic guru

Hi guys! I recently installed an Autometer D-PIC gauge. Thats the one that measures RWHP, 1/4 et's etc. It was just fine until recently when has been acting a bit strange. The thing is that sometimes it just dont turns up at all. Its wired to ignition. All connections were checked and they seemed to be fine. The funny thing is that all of a sudden turns up without me doing anything! WTF!? Also all ground cables appear fine. What could be happening? (besides the thing craping out?) I tried the Autometer website for some info or FAQ but they dont help much. Problem seem to appear when the gauge has been off for some time. My car is not a daily driver.

Any ideas?

"Seemed" as in measured, or as in looked at?

Take two sewing needles and push them through
the insulation near the unit on both wires. Hook
up your voltmeter. Got juice? When the unit doesn't
work? That answer will split your looking, down the
middle.
