Lightbulb Steering Wheel Swap - 98 Camaro using 99+ Wheel?

As you know, some 1998 Camaros (mine included) came with the LT1 style steering wheel. This means no radio buttons and just a generally ugly wheel.

I can pick up a 99+ Camaro steering wheel for relatively cheap. I like these wheels much better.

My question is this: how easy (or hard?) is it to swap out the wheels and make the radio buttons and air bag fully functional?

I want to swap from this wheel:

To this wheel:

Thanks in advance!

Should bolt right up no? You head unit will not work with the bottons though. A after market one with a infered remote, then get the adaptor that makes yoru steering wheel into the remote, and your good to go.

The 99 wheel doesn't look that bad.

I guess you would have to swap out the wiring in the 99 wheel because of the hal sensor and VATS system being different? That is the only problem I could see... It might just work without changing anything!

I am looking to do the same thing. I have a 94 Z28 and would like the wheel controls. Are all the steering columns wired for radio controls? Would it be hard to fish a wire harness down the column?

I am also interested in changing out the trunk plastics. I have the Bose setup which is the single speaker in the trunk. I like the Monsoon setup with both sides having speakers. Any idea the difficulty on the changout?

What year's did the wheel controls come in? Is the Monsoon the only one compatible with these controls?
Thanks

You can't just change the trim panels and add speakers to a Bose system. The Bose system uses special high-impedance speakers with individual amplifiers that are tuned for their location in the car.

What to do:

Remove aig bag
Pull steering wheel.
Replace clock work spring coil with unit for 2002 Camaro with radio controls ($200)
Fish the new airbag and radio control wires down the column.
Replug in airbag
Wire radio controls.

By the way...the wheel looked the same for 98 and 99, the wheel only started in the 00 model year....so don't go out buying a 99 wheel, it will look just like the 98.
