Default What can the stock charging system handle?

Hello,

I have an Apline V12-357 amp (4x50+1x150RMS 5 channel)... in my 00' Z28 Vert. I also have a Kenwood h/u. The amp is driving four Alpine SP170's, and the sub channel is driving 4x 8" RF Stage 1 subs wired to 4 ohms in a JBslim sub box. The system is very loud and I am quite happy with it.

The JBslim enclosure still needs a lot of tuning. I plan on taking care of this through the winter... but for power... I realize full well that I am under driving the subs by a healthy amount, so I am considering picking up a mono class D amp for the subs. Something in the 600 watt rms range should be appropriate. I'd like to do this over the winter through eBay and have it ready for spring.

However I've noted such amps have about 60 amps of fusing on their own... and I've seen some claim 55-58 amp peak draws.

The Apline uses 2x20 amp fuses, seems quite efficient and barely drags the stock charging system at all. Key off the lights will dim, but running there appear to be no problems at all.

Can the stock charging system support adding a monoblock amp like I am looking at?

I really don't think it will take it very well, and I'm not quite dedicated enough to get into alternator and battery upgrades, plus the cost of the 2nd amp... just to pick up the extra sub power.

Assuming that the fuse ratings are reasonably tied to the amps max current draw... what kind of amp rating total can the stock setup support?

50-60 amps is what I'm thinking.

Oh, and I'm using the V12 because it was $70 shipped off eBay. I have the same amp in my Trailblazer driving 4x6.5" and a 10" RF sub... and love it, so at the price I couldn't resist.

Thanks...

I have 2 V12 amps mrd-m501 & mrv-f540,with a 1 fared capacitor, the capacitor is to keep a steady voltage to the amp,so the headlights don.t flicker under load,of coarse I just had the stuff installed so my jl stealth is not installed yet but It will be tomarrow,so we'll see what happens

I really have no idea...my setup required that I run a 100 amp fuse right after the battery (two amps, one has a 60 amp fuse, the other uses a 40 amp fuse). I've not had a single problem with my charging system, but I do have an M6, so mine idles higher. I do have an underdrive crank pulley, and am still running the stock pulley on the alt.

Actually, it looks like I was mistaken...

MTX 3404
MTX 3402

The first has 25Ax2 fuses
The second has a 30Ax1 fuse

Don't know why I'm running a 100A fuse...I was originally gonna go with different amps, and I think that's why I did that.

Oh well...not the greatest setup, but works for me.
